So im having a resection of the TI and a little dig around the Jejunum to see whatsoever there and if it needs stretching/resecting eeek.

Got pre op asessment tomorrow

Weirdly the surgery is Weds but I have to stay the night on Tuesday? Anyone know why?

Id have to think that it is to do with the prep that they require and that Id bet you are one of the first surgeries of the day

Good luck Sophie, your surgery day before mine,my last section I had to go in day before for prep,I think because you are being possibly operated at the jujenum, you stomach contents have to be completely empty so they are possibly making sure prepping is spot on that's all,I have to be there at 8.00am Thursday along with his other patients for that day,I hope I am first to be honest so I don't have to sit about getting over anxious.Good luck Sophie, hope all goes well, let me know how you get on, xx Trish

Hiya Sophie

I've always been told it's because then your bed is secured, it's yours, so no-one can pinch it! Meaning, even if there's an emergency.
Good luck and let us know all about it, it's something that my gastro team have planned for me, one day!
xxx

Hi there,
Just wishing all goes well for you , and a speedy recovery. Best wishes.

Thanks everyone for your input! Strangely the surgeon said no bowel prep only an enema!? I'll ask them tomorrow as have a pre op asessment.
I'm really hoping I'm first in as I know he has squeezed me in.. we shall see!

Anyone have any tips to get me through this a bit easier?

OMG Soph! That's so close, I'm so happy for you! Hoping it all goes well and a speedy recovery. I hope my surgery date is as quick as yours :p

The only tip I can think of is that when they tell you to cough right after your op, have a pillow with u and press gently against ur stomach as you cough otherwise it will hurt. I'm sure someone who's had the op will be better placed to advise you.

Ps. Don't quote me on this lol

yes I remember that from the last time, stick a pillow on our tummy.i don't have to have any prep either for Thursday morning, just nothing to eat after 2.30am and nothing to drink after 6.30 am,so hoping I shall be going down within the 4hrs after I get to the hossy at 8.00am.Also Sophie ask the nurses before you go down the theatre when you get back to ask for a fan,cos a lot of the time after surgery you feel so hot,and also ask if they can keep moistening your mouth, cos it gets that dry sometimes you are unable to speak through dryness.

Marx I think the only reason it was so quickly booked is because my GI is a beaut and pushed it through and I have been on their case. Are you any closer to your date? Thanks for the pillow tip!

Trish thanks ill defo have pillows in my hand at all times! All getting a bit real now!

Had pre op assessment today have bloods taken, blood pressure, wee test, mrsa swabs, ecg and filled out a form, it was an absolute shambles, i had my Infliximab infusion aswell today and the nurse ended up taking my blood for me as the assessment centre was so shoddy, they didn't even have me on their system so waited nearly two hours ridiculous. That is £6 of parking charges ill never see again lol.

Anyone else have any tips of what to do / get??!

Also Trish they have told me I can eat / drink as normal before and then after will have an ng tube and only sips of water, im going to be bloody hungry!!

I was on an ng tube for about a week at my last er stay. I don't remember feeling hungry. It might have been the dilaudid

Hey Sophie, when I had surgery in 2003 I was asked to stop eating 2 days before being admitted to the hospital and surgery was then scheduled for the morning 3 days later. The idea was to get my bowel to a complete rest, something that only happens after 3-4 days without food intake.

P.S. after 2-3 days the feeling of being hungry sort of goes away. It's a weird thing, but basically your stomach and intestine shut down.

I did not have ECG,or a urine sample come to think of it,it seems to have all changed now, more flexible nowadays than a few years ago, just hope the pain medication has come on in leaps and bounds as well.I am surprised they give you your infliximab Sophie, altho saying that they told me to take my normal medication on the morning, trouble is I take my azathioprine after my evening meal,so I doubt whether I,ll be awake!!!!!!!!
