Sorry if I am posting in the wrong section. I was wondering does anybody else here have issues with sweating? Is normal for somebody with the disease to sweat a lot?

I even sweat a lot while walking around doing grocery shopping and was wondering is there anything I can do to stop it like any medicines etc?

Thanks in advance people

My son had night sweats prior to being diagnosed and we were told it was related to the inflammation.

His crohns seems to be under control right now but he has been complaining of sensitivity to ambient temperature for months - in the summer, he starts to sweat without exertion or very high heat, in the winter, he starts shivering, feeling very cold even if it's not terribly cold??? In his case, I don't think it's related to medication as he began to notice this before beginning his meds.

Unfortunately, we both forgot to mention it at his recent GI apptmt. :ymad: But, at an upcoming GP apptmt, I will be asking him to check for other causes... thyroid??

Sorry, I'm not offering you much advice :), but seems you're not alone in this...

Thank you for the reply. I have an app in December so hopefully I will know more about it then. Its a really embarrassing problem though so hopefully I wont have to wait too long. If it was a thoyroid problem how would I know? Are there any medicines I can take for it?

Only mentioned thyroid as something to rule out. It plays a part in regulating body temperature, although I think it's more common to feel cold, rather than hot. And some issues of the thyroid are also considered to be an auto-immune disease. If you look up thyroid symptoms, etc., you should find lots of info. Sensitivity to heat would only be one symptom so, although I will ask the GP to look into it, I'm thinking it may be a stretch - just want to rule it out.

Again, this may be a stretch, but I've also read that magnesium plays a role in regulating body temperature. If you have inflammation in the small intestine, it may be worth checking your magnesium levels. But, again, I only found a small comment somewhere on this when looking up general vitamin/mineral info so I'm not sure how big or small a role magnesium would play. But, in general vitamin/mineral deficiencies are common with active inflammation or scarring, so perhaps there are other deficiencies which could affect sensitivity to temperature.

Is it possible it's a reaction to a medication you're currently taking?

My sweating was CRAZY! I was in a highly air-conditioned church at a funeral and was embarrassed at the sweat that was pouring off of me. The lady next to me thought I was crying and had to hand me a tissue. Whether day or night, sitting, standing, shopping, working, watching TV...I was drenched in sweat. I wasn't hot. Skin was clammy. It was unreal.

So, yes - I completely know what you're going through, and if your treatment is as successful as mine has been, it will stop once the Crohn's symptoms have minimized.

My son has had sweating with Crohn's and it seemed to be present when he has had the most inflammation, before he started treatment and also with prednisone.

Hyperthyroidism causes increased sweating but also makes a person feel hot, have a fast pulse, lose weight and usually but not always have a goiter (enlarged thyroid). Hyperthyroidism is easy diagnosed with a TSH blood test.

old tread I know, but yeah- my thermal regulator is broken- I'm hardly ever comfortable no matter what the temperature, I'm, always cold BUT I can immediately go right into too hot (especially after I eat dinner for some reason). I get night sweats every night- wake up burning up- feels like my back is actually on an electric blanket on high- back and legs feel hot to the touch- but I'm also on the verge of being cold- IF I remove a blanket to try to cool down I very quickly go the opposite way and am shivering- I wear a long sleeve shirt over another shirt all summer- people look at me like I'm crazy- but I'm always vacillating between cold and hot- and no energy/strength- wanted to hike this summer for photo taking, but couldn't msuter the strength and energy-

The gtemeprature regulation problem has been a major issue with me for many years- usually after an ooperation for the crohn's, this will clear up for a coupel of years, then it will gradually start again-

An interssting thing happened awhile ago though- I had an infection unrelated to crohn's, went to docs, got anti-biotic- didn't end up taking them- then several months later started sweating and shivering again, real weak- just out of curiosity, I took the full course of antibiotics, and it cleared right up- no more sweating for awhile- Now, I'm not sure if it was just coincidence or if they actually worked- would have to try again- but not sure if I could get antibiotics again for no reason-

.

that's exactly how I get- sweating, but still clammy cold- I notice the sweating gets really intense in nervous situations like at doc's office or something too- but I'll be clammy and cold- very unreal indeed=- makes life pretty miserable really. I'm reluctant to go on meds though as the oens they had me on before really caused lots of side effects, boils, sores, several incidents of bronchitis that sent me to hospital twice-

I've heard that low B12 could cause excess sweating too.
More typically, low B12 causes fatigue, racing heart, depression or anxiety, neurological problems.

I am literally leaving seat marks on my phone from my hands as I type this! Haha
I have always been sweaty, I remember being embarrassed as a little girl when I did ballet because I'd leave sweat marks on the barre..
I am still the same but have gotten used to it. I might mention this at my next GI app though. Very interesting! I never even thought to link it to Crohns!

guts emphysema sweat profusely clammy under an hour after bathing lived in spain before all this was never so uncomfortable in their summers of 30 plus degrees now I spend uk summers yearning for winter must be hell down under ;)

I sweat profusely at night when I try to sleep. I'm talking soaking wet need to change clothing and sheets sweating. The rest of the time I am always cold and piling on the clothes. I haven't gotten my flare under control since it started though, still working through that with delayed doctor visits and medications.

Back in July, I had a lot to do at work- putting fresh display paper up on the walls ready for the children coming back in September, that sort of thing. However, I sweated so much that a) the paper kept getting wet and wrinkling in my hands and b) my colleagues were worried about me, and were ready to send me home ill! (Even though I felt fine at that point, it's just the slightest exertion and I was dripping with sweat).

I sweat at the drop of a hat. Its always my head that's worse and my hair gets wet and it runs down my face. Just the slightest change in temperature makes me go so hot I could swear I'm on the menopause!! Its very uncomfortable and embarrassing but I don't know what to do about it!

Tesscorm, I'm the same as your son. I seem to have an exaggerated reaction to temperature. I sweat a lot during the summer and during colder weather it actually seems to chill me to the bone and I'm shivering uncontrollably. Unfortunately I also forgot to mention it during my appt!!

Possibly TMI but I've noticed that when I sweat under my arms it has begun to smell quite sour. I don't know if it's the IBD or that I've changed to a Paleo diet. Does anyone else have this problem?

If I'm ill or flaring, my sweat smells odd, like solvents or pear drops. I believe it is caused by ketones. Otherwise, I can often smell myself, like stale sweat even when I just got out of the shower and haven't yet got dressed. I don't know how though, even when I am perfectly clean and don't smell in the shower, within minutes of stepping out even without sweating I smell stale again!

My son is almost 16 and last week when I went to wake him up. He had the house ac at 69, ceiling fan full blast, and box fan full blast and pointed at him. I lifted the covers in an effort to wake him up quicker and my gosh.... He had so much sweat on his legs, arms, face and through his shorts and shirt. We also was wondering if it had anything to do with the Crohn's. And on a personal matter we just noticed a smell from his room and that smells sour. I was thinking the dogs were going up to his room and going pee even though we have never had this issue in the past with the dogs. But, I do remember his hockey equipment would have an odor and we than thought the cat was peeing on his equipment.
Besides excessive sweating does anybody have a unique odor like what I have described? Or am I crazy?

Yeah, this is exactly like me. Although I don't know if it smells like stale sweat with me, it's a sour smell, like a sharp tang if that makes any sense? I have the same problem that even when I'm in the shower and already washed under my arms, they smell again before I've even gotten out the shower. It's really frustrating and upsetting because I know it smells through my clothes as well even though I keep myself and my clothes as clean as I possibly can!!

When I'm in flare up a sweat all the time and it pours out and very bad odur and after bath sometimes I smell worse
