What is in the Harbo sweets. Everyone is different. For me, if it had chocolate, that would aggravate me but then everyone is different

I generally find for me it a sugar level rather than what types of sugars. If I am eating too much sugar at some point I will start to exhibit signs of a flare. Although chocolate always seems to give me problems faster but that may be the dairy combo. If I eat sugar in moderation I am ok. Gummi bears seem harmless but they actually have a bit of sugar in them you would be suprised how much.

The amount of sugar also bothers me. A few years ago gummy bears almost took me down. I have a big love for chocolate but it does not love me :( I can eat honey without any issues and have been looking for candy recipes made with honey. I also try to stick to anything that has less than 10g sugar per serving. For some reason that's the magic number for me. Too much sugar and I get gas, pain, the big D and sometimes bleeding. So sugar is just not my friend.

Those with a chocolate sensitivity-I wonder if it's the caffeine? Do you also have the same reaction to coffee? Haribo lists as their gummy bear ingredients "artificial and natural flavors"(which could be MSG or who knows what) lots of different types of sugars and artificial dyes. You could be sensitive to one of these? Also, be careful of the sugar-free versions. Those usually have sugar alcohols which are know causative agents of gastric distress. I try to away from sweets. Once your taste buds get used to no sugar then fruits are sweet enough. I occasionally have dark chocolate(75%-88%) and don't have any issues with that. Everyone is different in what foods affect them.

I do think the combo of caffeine and sugar is the reason why I don't do well with chocolate. I try to avoid sugar also, but sometimes I crave a little something sweet. Still looking for that good honey recipe.

If you can handle milk, I love drizzling honey on plain greek yogurt

I haven't given up candy. The gummy bears do fine with me. If I ate the whole bag I'd have problems, but even without stomach problems that would bother me.

The trouble with Haribo sweets is the amount of sugar in them, but the biggest problem is lack of will power once the bag is opened. So I don't buy them now,not since I got my "borderline" diabetes down to normal,or rather before that.

It's more the sugar issue to me as well, no regard on whether it is Haribo or anything else. Seem to be doing better with glucose for baking than standard saccharose but currently I stay away from “artificial“ sugars and eat sweet fruit instead.

The artificial sugars in most sugar free foods are really bad for everyone's stomach, even normal people. Avoid things like mannitol, xylitol etc.

I sometimes suck on jawbreakers which have a lot of sugar and wonder if they could be bothering my stomach.
