Swelling under tongue?

Hi All!
Posted a few weeks back re: 16 yo daughter and confusing Crohn's diagnosis/infection questions. She has now developed a sore (for lack of a better word) under her tongue, right side only that is quite swollen and uncomfortable. Anyone experience this as a side effect of budesonide or mesalamine? I've bumped up the B12 as I know nutritionally she's out of whack from the 2 weeks in the hospital but don't know if that could cause something like this. Anyone have experience with this? I'd appreciate any info you might have. Thanks for your help.

I'm on Budesonide but haven't experienced any sores in my mouth. I've read that some people have though so it's quite common I presume.

Does it look like a canker sore or an open ulcer that's more the color of the mouth?

Grace get's them. There painful and hers also swells.
We don't now for sure what causes it.
It's either the disease or her inhalers if she doesn't swish water after taking it.
My mommy gut says disease.


We use a medicine called Magic mouthwash. Prescription only but works great for Grace.

Same here - mouth sores - no swelling - GI gave us prescription mouthwash for DS to use.

I'll ask about the mouthwash - thanks for the good advice. I guess when the drs. say "what she has will eventually reveal itself" that includes each new symptom that appears ... or doesn't. The "not knowing" is wearing me out.

I have come to find out that whenever we think we've outsmarted the crohns... it rears its head to say, "I'm still here!" Some kids get into long remission, so far we haven't experienced that yet either. We also recently have noticed little ulcers in the mouth...for the first time. (He's recently had an ileostomy too, so that could be the reason) So far they aren't too painful. They just aren't going away. We go on Wed.... didn't know about the mouth wash. I'm also going to have his vitamin levels checked (because of the ileostomy)

Bless your heart. Like Brian's Mom, I find that everytime I think we are "smooth sailing" something rears it's head. And the symptoms don't always correlate. When Claire's stools are fine, sometimes there are mouth sores. Sometimes her joints are bad when nothing else is bad.

I tell my family that I feel like her crazy immune system has an evil laugh and somewhat like Plankton, on SpongeBob, is always plotting his way around whatever the current regimen is!

PS We too, have done the mouthwash, and it does help with the pain.

Just to let you know there's different varieties of magic mouthwash.
Our GI had never heard of it and called the pharmacy to ask how it was made.
We have a big bottle that's kept in the fridge and her kind can keep good for a year.
