Hi, I am trying to find out if having a swollen tongue with raised cracked patches can be attributed to having CD. My sister who has CD, like I do, is currently suffering from this. Her GI doc says it is CD related her reg dr disagrees but this is a new manifestation to both of us. Both of us also have psoriasis pretty severely. Prednisone has helped with the tongue but only at the high doses which is causing her other problems. When she starts to taper off the pred the tongue acts up again. Any insights, suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated as she is pretty miserable right now. Thanks

I think it'd be a good thing to check with your doctor and/or dentist. Been doing my best to look into your situation. But, there are too many areas that are possibilities and I think it could be safer to talk to one of these two.

Do you guys have diabetes in your family? This seems to be one of the biggest things that I've seen for symptoms. But, I'd check into that as well. I hope you can find some answers to this. Sending hugs your way.

Check what other drugs she may be on for possible side effects. Especially if both of you are on similar meds and are having similar problems. Don't want to alarm you, but a friend of mine ended up in ICU from an allergic reaction to a medication she had been on for years.....started out with a swollen tongue (but not cracked).

I would be looking for more answers, even going to an ENT to be looked at.

Vitamin deficiency can also be a cause, here are some links....

Dear Shiny,
I have been diagnosed with Crohn's for 3 years now. I too had (and still have upon occasion) a sensitive, sore tongue that had red, rough, inflamed patches. I think it's related to Crohn's, but my GI is unimpressed.
