Can someone tell me the symptoms of c diff? As a side, I took a stool sample to the testing place today and they said they didn't have enough of a sample.

The smell is unforgettable, at least it was for Grace.
Other then that it mimics Ibd in almost every.

I hope you don't have it and if you do I hope it's treated easily.

The urgency is part of it as is the unique smell followed by blood. Most are similar symptoms to a flare so it is hard to know the difference until you have it. I can tell when to ask for a c diff test now, but it took a while to know the difference. Get the sample in as soon as possible. If it is c diff it only gets better with antibiotics.

I am on an antibiotic given by IV right now. It was started after the last surgery for the place on my scalp. I read in a small percentage of people that it can cause c diff like symptoms.

What antibiotic are you on? I'm kinda confused. Surgery on your scalp? Are symptoms subsiding? Hospitals are easy places to get c diff...

Meropenem is the name of the antibiotic. I had a lesion on my scalp for about a year. It was a rare side effect caused by Remicade. The doctors tried antibiotics orally and topical ointments. They would work for a while but then the lesion would come back. My doctors consulted. They decided to remove it surgically and then give me this antibiotic by IV. They then took skin from my thigh to put over the area on my scalp. I am receiving my last injection now. I will get my pic line out tomorrow and have blood work done. So far things are positive. Pray things continue that way.7

When I had c-diff, what got me to the er was the onset of severe pain in waves in my gut. It was bad. If you feel that, go to the er.

Ben 11, I just was released from the hospital with a severe case of C-Diff. It is diagnosed through your stool samples. Usually one will have a fever, have many bloody stools, D, and waves of intestinal pain. As was mentioned above, it is very distinctive but can also at first be confused with a flare. Flagyl didn't work for me the first round, and I ended up in the hospital for nearly five full days on IV antibiotic of flagyl and liquid vancomycin. Not on my list of do-overs!

Ben11, I can't answer that one. I just know about the stool sample. C-Diff is a bacteria infection that can go crazy when the good bacteria is stripped from your colon, pretty much the way the drs. described it to me. And mine went beserk! Sorry...

Ben colonoscopy won't rule out c diff. Most docs if there is a possibility you have c diff will test you before a scope because it is very easy to spread in a hospital. Hand sanitizer won't kill it Hand washing does and most docs go from room to room using hand sanitizer cause it is easier & faster.

When I was in the hospital last week, they did wear the isolation footies, gloves, and gown until my labs came back negative three times...Supportive Mom is so correct with her response as well about the hand washing. They did wash their hands each time as they left my room. There was a sink by the door they used, and all the stuff they put on was hanging on the front of the door. Even the housekeeping & food service staff was required to put it on. And I can understand why completely. I never want this again.
