Testing for TPMT before starting mp6 or aza

My son was tested for TPMT at diagnosis. His levels were ok but even so he had to stop Aza due to low lymphocytes and has just stopped 6mp as it wasn't working.

When Sarah was diagnosed the test wasn’t available in Australia, she commenced Imuran 50mg and had no issues with it.

When Matt was diagnosed he had test for it the same day as his scopes. The issue was the GI wanted to get him started on treatment ASAP and the test had about a 3 week return time so, in view of Sarah having no issues with it he commenced Matt on Imuran 50mg also. When the results proved he had normal levels of the enzyme he upped the dose to 100mg.

Hi Yes my son was tested before starting aza. He had good results of the test so started aza. Was on it two years before wbc and lymphocytes dropped too low. We have now gone down the remicade route which is working wonders so far.

A had the test which was normal. She started 6mp but had to stop shortly after due to liver issues.

Yes the test was done on Jack prior to starting azathioprine which he stayed on for several years before deciding it just wasn't quite strong enough. No issues with test or aza.

Yes Andrew had this checked. He was borderline so they tried Aza but it was too much for his liver

No test - is this something I should ask for? M has no issues with Imuran (75mg) but her levels are quite low.

Yes, my daughter was tested. The dr started her on a low dose of 6-mp while we waited for the test results to come back. Once they came back normal he upped the dose. She ended up having to go off of it a few months later though due to bone marrow suppression issues.

Tested here, too. DS was in the intermediate range, meaning he had to have labs more often and be watched more closely. In the end, Azathioprine didn't do anything for him so he moved to Remicade.

Yes, our GI checked 6MP metabolites before, 2-3 months after starting, and again recently when it seemed like the med wasn't doing enough.

My son was put on imuran after diagnosis and I'm pretty sure he didn't have this test. As it turns out he reacted badly to the med and had to stop it after a week. Hmmm... If he had had the test maybe we could've avoided that week of misery?

I never had it ( and a year late after numerous issues resulting in stopping, decreasing and going back off) and am now off it. I do wonder if testing would have showed I am sensitive to it, because even on 25mg a day I still had an overly supressed white cell count (3.6)
