Hello all &Thanks for this forum.
Hello to you all.
First of all, I would like to thank everybody who developed this forum..it seems like a wonderful home on the internet for all of us IBD individuals.
My story is a quite recent one regarding the disease. I work in a hospital and last febuary I picked up what i thought was a bug from the ward I work on (I work on the general ICU ward) 6 weeks later and more visits to the toilet then I had had in the previous 10 years (or so it seemed) I began to question the bug theory. The constant bleeding..I just did the manly thing and tried to ignore it, but I was getting worried. After making it to my vacation in May, I belived everything would go away with a little rest. All the time my visits to the toilet continued.
Eventually, I went to the doctor and he advised a colonoscopy, I of course knew better and asked to go on a 2 week course of flagyl. Doc reluctantly agreed (this went for 3 weeks as I had a friend in the pharmacy department who got me an extra weeks supply. great no colonoscopy for me..:ybatty:
Not to be!!
Everything just got worse. I was out training for the Dublin marathon doing a 10k run...when at about 9k....I had to do a run of a different kind and I mean quick:ylol: Back to doctor and colonoscopy now looms.
End of July and after colonoscopy...the news..I have Crohn's Disease..they are pretty sure. Initial course of steroids (which certainly did not help my running improve) course of 5 Asacolon anod healthy dolip of Imuron and things got back under control pretty quickly. That had now all been changed for 8 tabs of Pentasa which I find so much easier for me.
Sorry I think I may have gone on a little bit..but it is great to share with others. I am positive about my conditions and do not wish to offend anybody if I seem to make jokes a lot. Working in an ICU seening people passing from life each day has made me very aware that even with my new forund companion in life (Crohns) we are still very lucky we have a fighting chance with this disease..
Thanks again for reading this and ahope to contribute regularly
