the bleeding

few ppl are saying they bleed. did u all just bleed from beginnign or gradual?? is bleeding what im to expect or could i just be one who just dont bleed?? why do u bleed?

Some people bleed more than others. Some never do. I have only bled a few times. everyone is different, so you may never bleed, or you could bleed all the time, depending on where your disease is and how severe it is.

It is caused by open sores/ulcers in your intestines, or tears in the skin around the anus.

In my case I have a LOT of hemorrhoids, which, btw I just found out can be a complication of IBD. Ugh.

It's the bleeding that made me seek medical help in the first place, so I can say it was from the beginning for me. I have large-bowel Crohn's though. I think that (noticeable) bleeding is more common with this type.

i never bled until earlier tonight! it was quite a shock as its never happened to me before. is there anything we're meant to do if we see blood in our stools? can it mean anything serious? is it a sign your crohn's is getting worse especially if you've never bled before? sorry to add more questions into the mix!

I have never bled that I _know_ of. When my symptoms started I thought I was battling the flu so I never thought to look. My colonoscopy report said there was "contact bleeding" although I didn't notice it until recently and I'm no longer seeing the GI who did the report.

I have small bowel Crohns and I'm not sure the percentages of large vs small and whether you bleed more or less with either or.

With upper GI bleeding the blood gets partially digested. It turns brown/black and is difficult to see as blood.

I bleed quite a bit. I get periods (accidental pun but I like it) of it where it's more or less common though. Mine comes from ulcers where it's mixed in with the stools in the form of flakes, diffuse red blood throughout, or black and tarry which means it's coming from way up in the digestive system and it's well digested.

The most common blood for me is fresh blood on the tissue or dripping from me. This is the result of anal fissures. Tears in the skin that occur when your anus is stretched to allow the stool to pass. It happens more with constipation style crohn's.

Quite often the fissures originate from an ulcer that rips like when you pull on a 'tear here' notch on a package. Other times it's just passing a really difficult stool and it tears along a scar from a previous fissure.

Ok, so after I said I don't bleed...I started bleeding yesterday. What the heck!

How do you know if it is a fissure or a hemerroid (sp?)? Yesterday it was just blood on the toilet paper. Just now it was a bit more blood in the toilet as well. All bright red and felt like I was ripping a new one!

If this is what regular stools feel like I would have to say I prefer the diarrhea...course with less frequency! What's worse your butt hurt because of frequency or hurting because it hasn't seen normal poo in months!

A hemorrhoid will be a painful swollen spot. They're infected/inflamed veins. You'll have what seems like a growth. Fissures are simply tears.

I've had both the black tar stinky stool and the bright red. With the dark stool you can tell because it really does smell and it lingers.
Once when I was in the hospital and was suppose to go home the next day, I went to the bathroom and passed so much blood that my heart was working like a locomotive to keep up. They forced 3 units of half thawed blood into me that night. Man that hurts with that cold blood going into your arm. Did an endo the next morning and woke up in Coronary care. Scared the crap out of my wife.

The bleeding was my first symptom and was eventually what made me first go to the docs (although it took me a while to pluck up the courage to go....)

when im in remission i dont bleed at all, but when symptoms are coming back or i have a bit of a flare like at the moment... then bloody stools is also something that returns.

Like people have said though, some people might not bleed at all so its not something you should necessarily expect. but if it does happen its definatley a symptom and something you should mention to a doc/ specialist.

I commonly bleed when i have a firm stool but most of the time i have diareaha, and i dont have any blood with it.
