So, some of you may gather I have been having a bit of stress this week over the decision to go on Imuran. This is not something I am comfortable with, especially this early on in the process (perhaps I am still in a bit of denial about the disease!?).

Currently I am tapering Pred and on Flagyl (for fistula/abscesses which apparantly are healing) and mostly feeling good - though I think a small goatee may be developing - yikes!. Had a little of the lower back pain and tummy tightness over the past few days, but that seems to have eased as my stress levels have come down (lots of deep breathing, meditating and distracting myself from all this!).

Yesterday I went to see a naturopath, which was quite an interesting experience. Anyway, she insists that inflammation CAN be dealt with in a more natural way and has given me a collection of things to take. There are some heavy probiotics as well as some sort of cartilage (??) and something with antiinflammatory properties (has turmeric in it) as well as recommending cutting out wheat and grains. She insists that this should all get my body healing and learning to deal with inflammation while the pred drops.

I really want to believe this can work, especially with the price! I suppose when we are desperate we will try anything eh?

I wonder has anyone else had much success going down this route instead of doing scary things like suppressing our bone marrow? I feel like the medical community simply scares people into taking drugs they may be able to do without. I don't want to feel this fear any more as I'm sure it only makes matters worse.

Thanks

There is no reason to think that naturally occurring chemical compounds found in plants and animals can not help you. Of course they can help. But I also believe they are limited in their abilities.

As for diet. I think thats the key to beating this thing.

You can bring down inflammation with natural supplements. Diet is important also, and grains are not well tolerated by a lot of people. They really are one of the most recent foods in the human diet, and we do not digest them as well as other foods.

Anti inflammatory supplements are part of my treatment, and I feel it helps considerably. I also address the faulty immune system by using Low Dose Naltrexone. It is a drug, but one with far more positive effects than side effects. The only side effects are temporary and the side benefits are protection from other autoimmune diseases and Cancer.

If the above two treatments are not working 100% I have a couple of other alternative treatments I can use, but I rarely have to use them.

I take Turmeric and Vitamin D. I swear both help. But, I'm still on 6-mp. Now that I'm in remission, I don't want to mess with my cocktail.
