So I'm about 8 wks out from my first small bowl resection! One of the reasons for this resection was to take care of a recurring abscess from a fistula! Humira was not taking care of it so surgery was next!

Well a week after surgery the abscess that was only small and hard burst and drained very very little, Dr said that it might happen or it would just reabsorb because nothing was feeding it anymore since fistula is gone! Cool!!

Well here it is 8 wks out and the damn abscess seems to be coming back!!! This abscess is returning in the same area, one that I had to have surgically drain last year and the start of my nightmare called crohns!

I'm back on my Humira and have been since week two post surgery!!

I'm soooo upset!! Mad and getting depressed in the thought that this is all starting over and surgery didn't do a damn thing!!

What else could this be?? Scare tissue getting imflammed? Maybe something inside the cavity that just keeps festering? Or fistula back already?

I plan to call surgeon in the morning to get in to see him!! But I have weekend plans that I'm just not gonna let this mess up so hope to put it off til the following week!!

I feel fine, no fever etc never had one before with the abscess either so......

I am glad to hear that you are going to see the surgeon, or also, try the GI as well. That sounds awful! We go through too much with this disease!

It could be alot of things going on, but getting on top of it right away is a very good idea!

Please keep us updated on how it goes for you.
:ghug:

Thanks. Made my appt with my surgeon, and its going to be next Monday !! My GI always tells me I need to see my surgeon when I talk about concerns with my abscess :/

GI's can help with them too!? I hope it isnt an absess, and a quick course of antibiotics will do you!

All digits crossed!

I hope so. I'm just worried that its a fistula, which will have made this whole resection a waste. And unsure what my next step would be if it was??!!!
Ugh this is soo upsetting........
Thanks for the support :)

Awww this is such a crappy situation to be in. I mean... you would hope surgery to solve problems. It's already hard enough to go through the process, it would be nice if it came with the timed warranty of worry-free, problems free and healthy time ahead. I really hope for you that it is nothing too serious and that antibiotics or anything not involving more surgery will be enough.

Just a quick question though, are you only on Humira or are you taking any immunosuppressor with it?

No just on Humira although one of the GI I saw a couple times for 2nd opinions on things(not my regular GI) mention putting me on Imuran with the Humira. I have a appt with her next Tuesday to discuss that further. I was hoping I wouldn't need it, but looks like I do :(

I had 2 resections in the last 15 years, last one was about 6 yrs ago. And I have several fistulas on my butt... After my lats surgery my crohn's came back pretty quick. The surgery did improve my quality of life back then, gaave me a better quality for a few yrs after surgery. Today I still take lots of antibiotics depending on how badly my fistula's get etc. it varies week to week, month to month.

My Dr. has always tried to avoid any type of surgery with Crohn's, cos unfortunatelly the Crohn's always returns (it has with me).

But Dont worry too much, the Fistula might have returned, but it might be a smaller one, and quicker to heal with meds etc. I'm sure besides the fitual returning, you will notice a difference in your health over the summer. it takes time to heal properly and get your energy back. stay postitive if u can

My son and I flew to India in Feb for a procedure done in India for the last 30 years with a 99.7% success rate and crohn's is not an issue. He had a fistula for five years with an abscess. U.S. surgery had less than 50% chance of success and good chance he would need a colostomy bag. Four weeks later he was completely healed. No drugs involved and no surgery. Procedure is called KSHAR SUTRA. Do internet search. Total cost including plane tickets and homestay in Varnasi India less than $5,000 or 1/4 cost of surgery in U.S. Procedure was done by Dr. Sahu--known all over India. Have his Power Point on procedure if anyone is interested. He does 22 of these a day. Considered my son's fistula a simple case. See power point to know why. Fistualas are very common in India, Crohn's is fairly rare.

I know the feeling Txgirl. I'm only on Humira - had a seton placed in November - everything seemd pretty hunky dory - occassional antibiotics then bam this past Tuesday - The abcess came back - had to have it drained Friday. So frustrating. My GI said the same thing - call the surgeon. The surgeon says it won't stop until the Crohn's is under control - circular and kinda hopeless.
