Hi there.

I am curious if anyone has any experience or thoughts regarding the benefits (or risks) of raw milk and raw milk derived yogurt in relation to crohn's. My family keeps and milks a cow for home use, so I know the source is an extremely well looked after, grass-fed organic cow, and I have been enjoying her milk for some time. I personally believe that her milk is very healthy, and easier to digest when in the raw (unpasteurized) form. However, being compromised in my ability to deal with infection by crohn's and crohn's meds has me looking for more info and experience from others. I am not looking to start a raging debate about pasteurization, just asking for thoughtful, experience based responses.

So far, crohn's has not made me intolerant of raw milk, cheese, yougurt, or other dairy.

Thanks.

As diary farmer daughter we grow up on raw milk and it never made us sick.

If your cow is free from disease and infection, and your carry out proper food handling it should be no more dangerous than store brought milk.

My understanding pasteurization is only the heating of the milk to a very high temperature.

I've always been tentative of dairy, but that may just be me. Recently, I've actually discovered a really cool interactive tool that I've started using for these kinds of questions I have to ask myself on a day to day basis. It's called HealthTap, and it's this really cool website/iPhone application where you can ask questions to real doctors in real time and get responses in minutes (www.healthtap.com). It's really handy when I have to ask a question and don't want to wait at the doctor's office, etc. They don't always have the answers, but it's a great resource, in case they do!
