Quick question. My son is on Remicade every 8 weeks and so far he has always got his dose exactly on schedule. His next infusion is due on Xmas.

He could get the infusion a couple days early or 3 days late. Do a few days matter?

He's not on any other med and I really worry about him developing antibodies...

Thanks for your thoughts!

We had that issue our last year of Remicade and the GI opted for us to do it before Christmas day instead of after.

I don't think it generally matters, our GI always went for early instead of past date when an activity or holiday interfered with schedule. I think that was just his preference. And since C had active inflammation but was asymptomatic it probably was the best course for him.

a few days shouldn't typically make a difference. However, our center always opts for early because anything can pop up....storms, illness etc. so if you are postponing an already postponed infusion you could end up a week or more late.

Yep, we try to go early too, when given a choice. At our infusion center, you can go three days either way without them having to check with the doctor.

We were told that are insurance would not do early (before 28 days) by the infusion center!
You might want to check. I'll be calling mine to make sure!

Insurance will usually not do before four weeks unless you get it approved in advance. My daughter had it at 3.5 weeks when she was on high dose Remicade.

But if it's every 8 weeks for your son and just a couple days off, it shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks Maya, that makes more sense. Sorry xmdmom .

I've worried about this too! When possible, I move it up. I've even moved it up by a week (I checked with GI about moving up an entire week). S has delayed it by 3 or 4 days but never more. (He's on a six week cycle.)

Yep I would go early. My infusion center for 8 week infusions you can go 5 days on either side without talking to your doc. On 4 week infusions I get 3 days either way.
