Hi I'm 19.
I have ibs, gastritis, esophigitis and serve reflux and I know im taking 6pills in the morning and 2 other meds at night. I feel like that's too much medicine!!! I'm 19! Not 85. Sometime I feel like the dr's just try to cover up my problem rather than treating it. Both my gastro and ent are super nice and seem to care but I'm just worri d about my future health and stuff. I feel like I'm taking too much medicine. I don't want to be on it anymore :( it makes me upset. And whoever I call my gastro to say I don't think thI meds are working- he just increases them. So I just stop calling.
And ideas? Or natural remedies
Thank tou
Xoxo Alex

What meds are you taking? You may need a higher dose so you can get to the point that you don't need as many meds. For me, my doctor said I would be on meds for the rest of my life. At first I did get upset about it, and sometimes still do, but have come to terms with it. Ultimately I believe the benefits of the meds in keeping inflammation down and preventing more destruction to my intestines is worth it. That being said if a med isn't working you should definitely push to get it changed. Have you tried to change anything in your diet? That has worked for many to reduce symptoms. What are your symptoms?

Hi there! So sorry for all you're going through!

Is your current diagnosis IBS and not IBD?

What meds are you currently on, and what symptoms are you having?

I'm the type of person who wants tons of details about all my meds - what they are for, how long they take to work, how the docs will evaluate if they are working, etc etc etc. Have you seen the forum wiki? Great place to start researching your meds: http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=56

As for diets - Have you tried any sort of structured elimination diet? IBD-AID, SCD, AIP, etc? (if you search the forum there are lots of threads on these). That might help you figure out if you have trigger foods. Something else to research might be the whole30 - you eat veggies with every meal but they say for GI stuff to cook them very well (not raw!) and to avoid the harder to digest ones.

Personally, I've had success with a no gluten, no added sugar nutrition plan. (I prepare stuff from scratch that doesn't have these things - I don't use "gluten free" boxed mixes and such as they have a lot of additives that bother me.) Eating this way eliminated my bloating and reduced my fatigue. I still take medicine for my Crohn's to keep the inflammation at bay.

Depending on what symptoms you're dealing with, folks might have other suggestions.

I also want to know what meds you're taking. If it is some form of mesalamine and it isn't working for you, an option like Remicade might fit the bill not just for getting you in remission, but there is quite a long time between infusions so it may be good for your mental health as well.
