Travel Insurance (Any Canadians with experience?)

Hi,

Just wondering if any Canadians with CD have any experience with getting travel insurance? This will be my first time going on a major trip since my diagnosis. Do people with CD have more difficulty getting travel insurance coverage? Are there certain companies that you would or would not recommend? Is having CD even an issue for getting travel insurance? I really don't know about any of this, so any information would be helpful! Thanks!

I don't think you should have a problem getting travel insurance, the problem will be over what that insurance covers.

I can share with you the website I got travel insurance from for a recent trip (PM me for details). I really have no idea if the price was competitive, but it was very easy to get the insurance online so I took it.

Most insurance that is sold through travel agencies or other agencies will likely not cover you for pre-existing conditions (including Crohn's Disease). This would mean that something like a freak accident resulting in a hospital stay or doctor visit would be covered, but not anything related to your IBD.


If you did want to have your Crohn's covered, you will likely need to speak directly to an insurance company to arrange those details. I would imagine it would be much more expensive to have that covered vs. getting typical travel insurance. How long are you going away for as part of the upcoming trip?
