Hey everyone,

I am traveling to Europe at the end of the year
And are quite concerned about how
I'm going to keep my humira at a cold temperature
I have heard about the frio packs for
Insulin but they don't seem to keep it
As cold as what you need for humira?
Does anyone have any advice as to any good travel packs
That will keep my humira cool without too much fuss or has anyone used
Frio packs and been okay. :|

anyone?

i see a lot of people have looked at this but no response :| ? no one can help me or offer any advice....?

:confused2:

Wish I knew Bee!! Maybe google Abbott Labs or even just google your question! I'd want a definitive answer if it was me. Maybe everyone's afraid to give half-baked advice. Will you have access to refrigeration where you'll be staying?? If so, I'd think frozen ice packs in a small cooler should get you from point to point. But, otherwise, I don't know!! Good luck!!

I missed this one somehow!

When I asked my supplier they didn't have any usefull suggestions for traveling, but I did get a definitive "it's okay to keep the Humira at or near room temperature for up to 12 hours, once.". So if you can keep them cooler than room temp I'd think it'll be okay for the flight(s). What you don't want to do is to keep bringing them back to room temp, then putting in the fridge, then warm, then fridge...

I'm afraid I've never used the frio packs so can't help other than since they are multi use, initiate one and put a thermometer in it and see how well and for how long it works.

If you are traveling around when you get here you'll need some kind of battery powered cooler, as well as mains refrigeration at each stop. Again I've seen these sort of devices on diabetic supplies websites.

If it's a short trip have you considered double dosing before you leave and not carrying any more.

And finally have you talked to your consultant/Specialist nurse?

Humira is sold in most European countries by Abbott. There may be a way to have it shipped from a European-based warehouse instead. I don't know if prescriptions can be transfered like that, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

The other place I'd check for information is the US State Dept website. They may have information and advice for travel to specific countries and dealing with medicines.

Please report back when you have figured out a plan.

Good Luck

When I went in for my loadup doses today, the nurse gave me a special cooling bag for when travelig with the humira. It's basically a soft cooling bag with enough room for a couple of double packs of Humira and those old fashioned cooling elements sold with any cooling bag.

Mine is branded by Abbott. But I am sure you can find them in any pharmacy.

As for buying it in Europe. In Norway in any Pharmacy. You just have to fork out about
1000US$ a dose for it. (For Norwegians it's free)
