traveling question

I have a silly question that I have searched all over the internet and have seen mixed answers. My 4 year old had a colostomy. He wears the bag and we are planning to travel next month. I have heard from some that the bag can burst on a plane. Is this true? I have read that it isnt, but want to be prepared if it is something that can happen to him while we are on the plane.

I made a quick search on Google and found nothing relating to such a thing.

I do not see why it would burst. I guess what can make it burst on the ground applies in the air but I doubt the flight itself would be a risk.

No, the bag wont burst! I am assuming it is a bag with filters anyway? This is an 'old wives tale'. There should be no problem with the bag, but I cant comment on what the airline food will do!

If you can burb the bag if he gets a little gassy, you should be fine.

Have a great trip!!

That is soooo not true!!! I've flown over a dozen times with my bag and I've never had a problem whatsoever. I'd recommend emptying before getting on the plane though as changing or emptying in that tiny bathroom is a bit of an issue.

This reminds me of "1000 ways to die" where the girl died on a plane because her cheap breast implants exploded inside of her because of the altitude levels in the plane. I'm glad it wont affect bags though

I've been travelling by plane, sometimes on long Australia to Europe/Africa/USA flights, with an ileostomy for ten years and never had a problem like that. I usually have to empty my bag a number of times during the flight, but make sure that I don't wait until just after everyone has finished their meals - then there's a rush for the toilets.

Thanks. I didnt think it was true, but had to check anyway. Flying scares me and I would freak if I had to deal with his bag messing up too :)
