I had a GI appointment today and my doctor was super excited to tell me that there is now a blood test that can screen you for antibodies for the progressive multifocal leukoenchephalopathy (PML) that is sometimes associated with the drug.

I had the blood test today and if I test negative for it will start Tysabri as soon as the insurance approves it. The best part... if I'm negative the I won't have to worry about this possible brain infection!!

Anyway, I thought I would pass this info on since I know that Tysabri is kind of a taboo drug around here because of the possible scary side effect :)

That's fantastic! I told my doc I refused to take Tysabri because of that. If it becomes necessary in the future, I'll make sure he knows about that test and tests me for it.

I didn't think to ask what the blood test was called. I will ask him next time I'm there. i was going to end up taking it regardless because I'm pretty much out of options, but if i test negative I won't have to worry!! If i'm positive for it, then we're going to have to figure something else out.

Good luck Amanda, I hope it's negative!...:goodluck:

Dusty.

Yes! I believe it is the JC test. I looked it up last night and pretty sure that is what it is. I should have asked more questions, I always feel like I should ask more questions when I leave there... but I always get wrapped up into all the stuff going on!

Thank you, Dusty!! :)
