UC caused by poor digestion?

I've had bloody stools for over 30 months now.

Sometimes for weeks/months on end, and other times I can go 1-3 weeks w/nothing.

I've had abdominal CT and everything checked out fine (other than a couple kidney stones).

I have been diagnosed with bacteria infection / over growth, and have about gotten that taken care of through VERY strict diets and natural supplements. I also recently learned that for some reason green tea causes serious inflammation of my small intestine, and until I realized this I would go in cycles of flushing out all my "good" bacteria from my small intestine, and crazy pain for short-term. I used to not be able to leave the house due to diarrhea and having to "go" 10 times per-day, (often only once or twice with blood), and my stool test showed that I was not digesting food properly.

Fast forward, the last 6 months I've been much better due to my strict diet, and supplements. Mostly diet, and learning my body, and when to take what, and when to eat what.

I read about everyone and their experiences and I don't seem to "fit" in with what most are dealing with.

1. I very very rarely have urgency, only if I eat something that gives me gas. (Which used to be everything, not so much in the last 10 months, and not in the last 6mo at all.)

2. I have no problem with alcohol.

3. I have no problem with VERY spicy foods. In fact if I eat spicy food and I feel the burn on the other end I normally go a lot more that day, often no blood, and then don't have blood for the next 2-3 days. In fact, my best weeks were when I was eating spicy food almost daily, and completely emptying as my stomach muscles cramped up, and forced everyhting out. The next day I sometimes wouldn't even have to go, and my thought is that small break gave me time to heal enough.

4. If I drink Coffee and stimulate my colon to actually cause movement I get blood.

5. Most of the time the blood is at the START of my BM not the end.

6. I've never had pain while going to the bathroom, yet sometimes (mostly 10month+ ago) I will get the "heat" and burning colon. Left of my belly button to my left side, feels like it's on fire but not a hot fire is the best way I can describe it. (This recently occurred because I drank coffee for the first time in a very long time.)

7. I often feel better if I drink 1-2 glasses of red (cab) wine. After doing some research I found that in studies it does in fact kill bad bacteria, and in some tests 100%. The wine actually significantly helps with the gas... which I've almost gotten 100% under control now with red wine, and beano.

8. I eat 4 eggs minimum per-day for the last 3+ months, and have even tried drinking milk 3x per-day with no ill affects.

9. The only foods that noticeably give me problems are whole wheat, almond flour, psyllium and other "course" grains. (I can have a hamburger w/white flour bun and no issues)

10. In the last 10 months I've had problems with really red eyes, dry eyes, and blurred vision, anxiety, panic, fatigue, light headed, 0 energy, etc. Other problems have been nutrient deficiency related.. which I know is from my very limited diet. (Low potassium, low carbs, low fat. -- all have caused all sorts of crazy problems for my body that I've now been getting back under control.) I dropped 20lbs in 1 week two times in the last 2 years, and i've always been SUPER healthy so that 20lbs took me down 20lbs under where I should have been. I've now put it all on + more w/muscle mass, and am just starting to get the nutrients I need... I can tell my digestive system is working much better than it ever has in the last 3 years but the bleeding isn't stopping.

-- Question Time --

1. Can UC be caused by poor digestion caused by my bacteria infection?
(My first ever symptom was mucus + blood and from there got worse into digestive problems, bacteria, etc..., and I've had times in the past, and recent with a LOT of floaty/stringy mucus (always at the start of the BM).

2. Could it be internal hemorrhoids instead of UC, that sometimes spreads due to stimulating my colon?

3. I really think sometimes it's at my "fold" or "bend" in my large intestine because when I`m doing good, and then get a flare-up that's where the blood is often right where my stool curves.

I'd really like to get your guys/gals opinions on my weird / varying symptoms.

Hi and welcome to the forum! :welcome:

I'm afraid that I'm not really sure though how to answer this. I do know that usually when you're seeing blood, especially when having a bm it means some sort of inflammation. I also know that nobody with the challenges we face are always the same. But, even though some of your symptoms could mean IBD/IBS others do not.

So, the best thing that I can really suggest is to keep in contact with your doctor. I hope that you'll be able to find the answers in order to make you more comfortable. Take care.
