I dont know if I have arthritis but ive always had trouble with my left knee ever since high school. Doctors never really figured out why my knee started aching or why it doubled in size they just treated it like I tore a miniscus and treated it with physical therapy ice baths and massage. Every now and then since ive had a few flareups but nothing bad. Yest I had some sort of bug or maybe a flare of my crohns disease im not sure but I had intense stomache pain and straight water diarrheah. I slept for 14 hours and felt better however the next day my knee started to ache. It got worse over the day and lead to other stiff achy joints such as my hip my right knee and my wrists. The right side of my jaw also hirts but I dont know what that is about. Anyway my knee is yet again double in size and hurts to move or put pressure on it. Just wondering what will help. Tylenol has done nothing and heating packs dont do much e Ither...an incredibly hot bath helped a little but after getting out its still stiff and hurts

What have your doctors done in terms of tests on your knee? I have arthritis in my hip, which was found on x-ray. Now I'm being sent to a rheumatologist to get a better look at details like what type of arthritis is it, what is causing it, is it spreading or getting worse, etc. I had some bloodwork done which ruled out RA, but I still don't know which type of arthritis I have. So I hear your frustration. I would say call your doctor and let them know what's going on - if your knee is that swollen, take a photo and email it to your doc! If you don't see a rheumy already, I'd ask for a referral there too. Your GP should be able to do x-rays and see if it looks like arthritis though in the meantime - my GP is the one who x-rayed and diagnosed me with arthritis. Good luck, feel better soon!

Hello. Unfortunately Cronh's and arthritis go hand by hand. Sometimes is due to flare up, other due to medicines and then we have enterophatic arthritis. Like one thing is not enough. Hope you feel better soon. Try hot and cold compresses. Or any cream, gel, ointment for arthritis.

Thanks. I feel much better today. Monday night I got hardly any sleep then tues was just miserable especally at work and I missed my sons bowling league and he got his best score yet. He sounded so upset I wasnt there. Anyway my mom had me elevate my leg and take ibprophen for swelling then an hour later tylenol for pain. When that kicked in I was able to move my legs a little more which loosened the joints. I finally ate a decent meal (I was sick sunday and monday I didnt eat much either) and by this morning the swelling and pain were decreased a ton. I still ache but its more muscle pain from limping and using muscles I dont usually use. Im not sure if its still worth a call to my doctor as the swelling is gone and im no longer limping...what do you think? Also could not eating a full meal for two days cause my joints to become sore and stiff? I doubt itd cause the swelling though.

Also heat did no good. I took a very hot bath which helped a little and I couod move the knee a little but after about half and hour it froze up again and caused much more pain...ice helped a little but didnt allow me to gain any extra movement.

I am glad you are feeling better. Is a good idea to call your doctor. Maybe you can get a referral to a rheumy. Best wishes.

It sounds like the knee swelling has happened before, based on what you wrote in your initial post? If that is the case, then I would definitely let the doctor know. As my GI says, he can't help me if he doesn't know what's going on. So let your docs know what's going on - even if they do nothing about it now that it's feeling better, at least there should be something in your file saying you called about knee pain & swelling. When in doubt, call the doctor! Glad to hear you are feeling better now, and I hope it continues to improve.

Crohns definitely can cause arthritis to start or get worse especially in places with previous damage. ask your doctor for something for the pain if it is becoming unmanageable. Also try warm towel wraps, warm baths with oils and salts, and if you can afford it, invest in a massage monthly at a minimum.

Hope this helps!

just to let you know I also get arthritis in the jaw, left side. Also many other joints suffer, my neck especially. I put loads of voltarol gel on my joints and take painkillers
