I was just thinking, that while the meds are expensive in the UK, thanks to the NHS even if I had a part time job, I wouldn't come any where near to struggling.

However, I imagined what if my conditioned worsened and "Reasonable Adjustments" that my workplace is legally required to take stopped cutting it.

I fear a day might come where my liver/kidneys stop managing the 150mg of Azathioprine that I'm on and at that point I don't see myself holding a job, I went through a period of almost not keeping food down for three days straight.

Anyway, should this occur, which honestly probably isn't an entirely unforeseeable circumstance, has anyone ever heard of someone with Crohns disease applying for (Personal Independence Payment (PIP))?

Also just to clarify I am quiet against the idea of not working, and dislike the idea of taking money from the government inorder to do just that, but **** happens and I'd rather be a drain on the government than my parents if this situation were to arise.

There has been a few people on here who have applied (i think successfully) but it's very much on a personal basis. There isnt a blanket "you have this illness therefore you qualify" and I've heard it can be pretty hard, but if you understand what you need to qualify then there is a good chance you can

I think it can be very difficult to get PIP. I am also on a FB group for people with crohns in the UK, and some people on there have applied and been turned down.
Part of the problem is the understanding of what crohns or IBD is. The people that sit on these panels have no understanding of it at all and aren't medically trained.
I applied for DLA for my son last year, and knowing their lack of knowledge I wrote a very detailed letter along with my application to the panel pointing out how things are for my son, how his life differs from his peers etc. I even wrote the amount of time he uses the toilet and the amount of times I have clean up after he has used it  I just felt I have nothing to lose, and they then can't come back and say there isn't enough info. We got awarded DLA really quickly!

If the comes a time when you can't work and need to apply for PIP, then do as I did and give them as much information as you can going into as much detail as you can.
