Does anyone have Ulcerative Colitis and an Eating Disorder. I am looking for someone with similar issues. :shifty-t:

I am in my late 40ies and discovered that I had an Eating Disorder only 2 years ago. However, I suffered from ED all of my life!! That said, I was never skinny, I was the opposite. I was overweight all of my life and tried to constantly lose weight. When I finally dropped all the weight, the old habbits came back. (not realizing that the old habbits were an ED)

In an effort to find a solution to help me control my eating after the weight loss 2 years ago, someone suggested that I had an eating disorder. When I looked it up online, there I was, in black and white. I am a binge eater borderline bulimic in that I over exercise. I do not throw up, though I wish I could have after an episode.

I embarked on a journey to get better, and got help. I was also recently accepted to highly specialized eating disorder program. I am learning that my emotions and mental dialogue is what is making me escape into overeating. Though I am becoming aware of it, it is truly difficult to stop the mental out of contron state from happening. However, I do see an improvement over 2 years, I do still see that the eating disorder is still there.

This Eating Disorder truly does not help my ulcerative colitis. I was diagnosed only 13 years ago, but had awful symptoms all my life. I thought it was normal bloating pains, chronic constipation, blood spots from hemeroids I thought, hurful hemroids and fistulas etc. I only got help when I started bleeding like a water faucet about 13 years ago.

Thus far, no doctor has attempted to discuss food habits or behaviors. But meds, I took in abundance. Naturally, all the medication in the world cannot help me get better if I shove food down my throat in abundance, into a digestive system that cannot handle it!!!!! I must rid myself of this Eating Disorder in order to give myself a chance for the medication to manage my Ulcerative Colitis. Furthermore, I have been trying to follow the SCD diet, but with an eating disorder, any diet or no diet is difficult. On the SCD diet, when I lose control, I will overeat on permissible foods, but it's still hurtful to my system. Thankfully, the episodes are actually less intense than 2 years ago. But an episode is still so hurtful emotionally and physically.

I met a guy whose been in remission for 10 years with the SCD diet, and he swears by this diet. He also said it takes at least 2 years, (him it took 3 years and another friend 5 years) before complete remission started. That is you can follow the diet for that long, and still be sick on and off until those years pass. But they swear it is worth it. However, they do not have an eating disorder to my knowledge.

The Eating Disorder nutritionist does not believe in this diet, however, she also is new to Ulcerative Colitis. So, not having any knowledge of Ulcerative Colitis does not inspire me to convert back to convetional eating. Thus far, I think I should make the SCD Diet work, as it has proven to help manage Ulcerative Colitis in many patients. I am open to suggestions on this matter, given that I am also suffering from an ED.

Simply put, I want to find someone out there, who is living with both UC and ED. Maybe you also have suggestions on how to balance the SCD diet or alter it. Your words will be greatly appreciated.

Patient in Waiting,

Many Thanks

Betty
