Hi,
New to forum. I have been suffering with intermittent diarrhoea for the last few years, sometimes with a lot of blood in diarrhoea. It all calms down again and I could go many months without any illness. However I keep getting abscesses in the Peri-anal area, groin and between anus and vagina, at one point I had 6 altogether. I was checked for fasting glucose came back negative. Swabs were taken but the came back with normal flora. Presently have an active fistula and 1 abscess. Tests for ulcerative colitis came back normal. I haven't had an endoscopy of small bowel but did have MRI. The dr has said it isn't crohns. I am currently taking salofalk. I had 7 episodes of diarrhoea yesterday with a very painful abdomen. Still got a painful abdomen but no diarrhoea. Feel nauseous and have mouth ulser on roof of mouth I also have a large skin rash on my shin as big as a grapefruit. I am coeliac but follow a rigid gluten free diet. Any ideas, thanking you for your time

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear about the troubles you are having :( Have you had a colonoscopy? Have blood tests confirmed whether or not you have inflammation in the body? What specific tests were done for UC and how have they been able to rule out crohn's? What explanation is the doc then giving for your continued problems with abscesses and other symptoms? Are they planning to do more testing? We do have an undiagnosed sub forum that you might also like to check out to have a chat with the folks here as well: http://www.crohnsforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=75.

I had a colonoscopy August 2012, which came back negative for ulcerative colitis, my bloods were normal and I had an MRI scan beginning of September. I had a letter through from the Dr today saying they have found abnormalities but it is not IBD and they have made me an appointment for 22nd of November. Really fed up though, because when he said he thought it was crohns it made me feel better thinking at least I could label the pain and symptoms and manage them. Still taking Salofalk and it has helped me.
Thanks for replying AB

Hopefully the appt on the 22nd will give you some answers when the abnormalities have been explained. A pill cam can also be looked into so things 'higher up' can be looked at inside. Please keep us updated on how you get on.

Hi there and welcome :) I'm so sorry you're having to go through this, you poor thing :(

Boy, it sure sounds like Crohn's to me. However, there are other disease that can cause the same symptoms and are a differential for Crohn's Disease. Make sure they have tested you for Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, Syphilis, Chlamydia, and Gonorrhea.

I'd still put my money on Crohn's though.

We're here for you!
