DS was taken off Pentasa and put on Azathioprine last month. Now I have over 500 Pentasa pills sitting here because our dumb mail order pharmacy insists on sending out three months worth of meds at a time. I know I can take prescription meds to the county government center and they dispose of them properly, but that seems so wasteful (especially after what we paid for them!). One container hasn't even been opened.

Is there anything else I can do with them?

I'd hang on to them for a while. There is always the possibility that a combo of pentasa and aza may be just the thing for him.

^^^ yeah that
we keep them until they expire since who knows what the next med combo might be
or when

As said above hang on to them. You never know you might need them again.

My daughter stopped her Pentasa last week but l'm holding on to the rest just in case.

Definitely hold on to them. After multiple major catastrophies (man-made & nature) we were strongly encouraged to ensure we have at least a 90 day supply of meds. I was iffy at first (how to get them as typically our insurance only gives out 30 day supplies); so when we had a few prescriptions overlap I just kept filling them. Now we have the back up. Praying we never need them!

^ Yep, keep them till they expire. You can also take them to your local pharmacy where they will take care of them. Can't give them away or sell them though as its illegal.

I agree on having a 90 day supply on hand. Sadly I cant think of a way on remicade

Never thought of having a 90 day supply on hand - good idea. They had an old prescription dropoff / amnesty at various locations around Town a couple of weeks ago - basically a pharmacist and police officer in a room. You would bring in your old scripts, black out the patient name with a marker and the pharmacist would write down the drug name and pour the pills into a 5 gallon pail.

I think there are third world organizations that can take them, like Doctors without Borders. They take expired meds too. It would be worth checking into.
