Hi Everyone,

I know I get frustrated when people don't update anything about certain medications/pregnancy, so I thought I would let you all know how things are going, in case someone else might be in the same situation. :)

I was a little concerned about all the medication I was on when I first found out I was pregnant. After doing tons of research I decided to wean myself off completely from the prednisone and celexa I was on, and after speaking with my high risk OB, he decided it would be best that I stay on the rest.Throughout this pregnancy I have regularly been on Remicade, Prilosec, Vitamin D (150,000 units per week) my Prenatals, flexeril, and he also thought it would be best I stay on my pain medication which is Oxycontin ER (30mg) and Tramadol (50mg).I'm sure everyone knows how painful crohns can be, I also take it for back problems and arthritis. The doctor said it was only going to get worse for me as the pregnancy progresses.
I just had my 19 week ultrasound (I'm 20 weeks now) and am very happy to report that the doctor said baby looked very good, and healthy! My last boy was born with clubfoot, so I was a bit worried it may happen again, but his feet looked great. :) It's also another BOY, which makes 6 boys in a row for me now! :D
Now there is some concern about the pain medication and withdraws. So about a month before I give birth, I plan on getting down to the lowest dose of oxycontin as possible and cut out the tramadol completely. If I get down to a low enough dose there shouldn't be any WD's or problems at all.
A doctor will NEVER tell you that any medication is completely safe for pregnancy except for tylenol. They just can't risk it.*IF* something were to happen to go wrong, they would be facing a huge lawsuit, that's why they won't say it's completely safe.Oxycontin is actually pretty safe to take in pregnancy. It's a category B (about as good as A) and from all of their research (which is limited on humans) it has not been shown to cause any birth defects, and it was given to animals in VERY high doses.I've done a lot of research on some of these meds. The celexa and prednisone *probably* would have been ok too, but it was my decision to stop those.
Anyways, I hope someone will find this post helpful.Good luck to all those who are pregnant! Also feel free to PM me if anyone has any questions.
:)

Excited to hear the baby is well especially given the medication situation.

Wish you and the baby good health and hope the painkiller situation does not affect the baby in any way. Congrats and Best of luck to you and your family!
