recently I was in the hospital for upper gi bleeding in my stomach. I had a EGD done and my doc found lots of inflammation in my stomach. I was prescribed PPI to help heal my stomach. I also was prescribed Lialda and I have been taking that for about 2 weeks. My doctor says that my colon and last part of my small bowel are effected right now. My doc wants to perform another colonoscopy in about 4 weeks to get more biopsies. I felt some what better after about a week of taking the Lialda, my d slowed down but I am still having pain during the night. Since about 3 days ago my joint pain has really gotten bad. My hands knees, and now my ankles and lower back and part of my middle spine are really hurting. Also yesterday I noticed that there was a spot on the top of my foot near my ankle that looked like a sore that has now turned in to a crusted like ulcer. I am not sure if this is related but it hurts like hell, and now I have 2 other smaller areas like it starting to turn in to a sore as well.
I see my doctor in 4 weeks and I am going to tell him about it. I mentioned that my joint pain wasn't going away and he says I have to be on the meds for at least 8 weeks for that to go away. It seems like now my tummy pain and joint pain are getting worse. Ive also noticed an increase of blood in my bm and I am wondering if maybe the Lialda is exacerbating my pain or causing it? I read that its typically used for UC, so If my small bowel is involved then would it still be effective in that area?
Has anyone taken Lialda? what were your side effects? Did it work for your Crohns? My doc said "crohn's Colitis"? The only info I found on that was that when its Crohn's colitis, its limited to just the colon. I also felt that my stomach inflammation wasn't really explained. Can Crohn's cause inflammation of the stomach? Ive also read that sometimes Crohns can cause chronic gastritis. My doctors also suggested that I see a Rheumatologist, they were concerned because I have elevated RF and ANA and CRP..... Im wondering if maybe I have something else going on besides my bowel inflammation.
I trust my doctors but its hard when I ask them questions and they just say take this drug, theres no cure. If it doesn't work then we will try another drug. I def dont want to end up in the hospital again. Ive been searching for alternative medicine and Ive read a lot about medical marijuana. Has anyone tried it? Does it work? I take supplements along with my regular meds and Ive not noticed a difference. My appetite was ok for a few days now it seems to be back in the dumps. Im guessing because of the pain?
I feel so confused about whats going on in my body, it seems like its getting worse, then a little better then worse. Its really frustrating sometimes...
I hope everyone out there is in good spirits. Thanks for reading my ramblings...
Best,
Ceci
