I just got the blood work from Mayo today. When I first came down with Crohn's 7 months ago, my CRP was 59! Then before I went into the hospital with flu a few months ago and they wrecked me with antibiotics, it was 0. Now it is back up to 9.2. I'm so discouraged. Does this mean I need the steroids after all? I guess the doctor will talk to me about the results. I feel fine on the Lialda, but shouldn't I have normal CRP if it's working? What do you guys think? Do you ever have high CRP? Thanks, Tina

I know that personally my CRP has been up and down.
A normal CRP is below 5 I believe.
When I was admitted to hospital last November my CRP was 88 and even then they said it wasn't critical. After 3 days on a drip it went down to 13 and now I'm in remission after being put on infliximab I'm down to 3.4.

I'm no expert, but I think the problem with CRP is that it measures any inflammation in your body, not just that related to crohn's. It sometimes takes a while for it to go back down.

I hope your GI can give you some advice!

Thanks, Lucinda
I know it's the Crohn's causing it because I haven't been back to normal since I was in the hospital a few months ago with a severe flu. I notice that you take setraline. I've never heard of that. Is it helping you? I had a B12 shot today, thank goodness. I get the twitches when I go too long without one.

Sertraline is an antidepressant so not really helping the crohn's directly, maybe indirectly as I'm not getting as stressed.
I've had my first 6 B12 shots, they're really painful!! Had to have 6 over two weeks. I think I get them every three months now. They seem to be working, I'm not having to have a nap in the afternoon, unless I've really overdone it.

Lucinda, I don't even feel my B12 shots. My daughter gives them to me usually, but today I had the nurse do it because my daughter is out of town and I had a Dr.s appt anyway. She commented on how small my needles are and said that they use larger ones in the office. I asked if the larger ones made any difference and she laughed and said that they only hurt more. My needle package says: B-12 1ml 25G 5/8 0.5mmx16mm
Ask for this size next time. It shouldn't hurt.

Thanks Tina! That's definitely something to ask about.
I think I have a pathetically low pain threshold! It's not so much the actual needle going in, it's more the feeling in my arm muscle, kind of like a crampy feeling.
I think having 6 in two weeks didn't help!

That is a lot. I only get one shot a week, sometimes 2 at the most. I do have a high pain threshold - had totally natural childbirth for two very big headed babies. lol
