uti battle?

Saw my gi yesterday. He put me on lactulose to clean my colon from the stool and help my partial obstruction. It's actually very soothing syrup for the stomach if anyone wishes to try. I take 2 tablespoons once a day and I've felt over all better. It's slow acting so its not like Omg gotta run to the bathroom type of laxative lol. He is concerned why I'm getting frequent uti and yeast infections. I'm always super clean but I've gotten them frequently since I was 14. Called my obgyn but no return yet. Anyone else have this problem? I mean if something was wrong down there wouldn't it show up on xray/Ct scan? Or do u need a ultrasound? I have an apt with obgyn on Sept but gi Dr is very concerned plus with the amount of antibiotics he is scared my c diff will come back and be even harder to destroy. Any advice/experiences are welcome :)

I get frequent UTIs as well and it's been that way for me since I was 20 (I'm 31 now). Unfortunately, my bowel issues are still undiagnosed, so I'm not sure if there's a connection or not, but I wanted to say that I feel for you and I know what it's like to have angry guts and UTIs going on.

Have you tried any cranberry products to try to prevent UTIs? My doctor told me years ago to drink cranberry juice to avoid UTIs, but there's some problems with that. Cranberry juice is usually full of sugar, and sugar can cause more UTIs - and if you get cranberry juice that has no added sugar and is 100% juice, it's super tart and not many people can drink that stuff regularly. So I take cranberry supplements instead, and those have worked pretty well. I now get maybe one UTI every year or two, opposed to the 6 or 8 UTIs per year I was getting when I wasn't on cranberry supplements. You might want to give cranberry supplements a try, as far as I know they don't have any side effects or interfere with other meds, so the worst that can happen is they won't work for you. Good luck, I hope you find the cause of your recurrent infections and can get them under control and avoid C Diff too!

Hey there
Sorry to hear this: UTIs are the pits :-(. I've had two bouts of recurrent infections. Once years ago which cleared up when I had an ovarian cyst removed ( it was pressing on my bladder. )
Then at the start of my Crohns flare. I eventually had a
P CT scan as Pred was not clearing the symptoms and they found an abscess and bowel to bladder fistula.
The cyst was found by ultrasound. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I hope you get some answers soon.

I feel your pain! I had constant yeast infections after starting Imuran.
I ended up having to go one once a week Diflucan for the yeast. I used to get tons of UTIs a few years ago.

My advice which you probably already know:
Limit caffeine, tons of water, zero soda, avoid processed/sugary foods as much as possible, go pee as soon as you feel urge, pee immediately after sex, shower before sex when possible, no baths, wipe front to back- unscented baby wipes are great, probiotic supplement, cranberry supplement, change out of workout clothes/bathing suit immediately, cotton underwear, only use unscented super mild soaps in the area, perfume free detergent.

Hope this helps. Are the yeast infectioms near you period? If so you may be able to just do a once a month diflucan.
