vaccines needed to start remicaid?

I meet with my GI on Dec 27th but I'd like to get as many vaccines before then so I can start on remicaid asap. He mentioned I need to get a TB test and a hepitis test/vaccine, gardisil(for the HPV), and a tentnus shot. I just got the flu shot yesturday and that hurt like hell so I'm not loooking foreward to all the shots but still. lol

Hmmm, I didn't get the HPV vaccine or the tetanus shot. I did have the TB test, which is much much easier than the flu shot.

Those flu shots can hurt something fierce, and not many folks seem to know how to give it so it doesn't hurt. I hope your other shots go well.

I'm working on my Hep series, but that wasn't required...just recommended. I did not have any other vaccines. Never heard of anyone getting the HPV shot before Remicade. Maybe that's just recommended because of your age, not necessarily due to Remi?

The TB test is a must.

Ok thanks. My doctor seems to be very thorough when it comes to starting immunosuppressants. He did say that I am of age to get the HPV vaccinne and I should get it done before the age of 26. Thanks for all the input, if any others have an idea what's needed ect I appreciate it

I am also in the approval process. I had to have a current Mantoux test(TB test) as well as check my titres for Hep B as well as a test to see if I had actually been exposed to Hep B- I am in health care so it is possible that I was exposed unknowingly yet was protected by the vaccine. I also had to check the status of the rest of my vaccinations- Tetanus, Rubella, Diptheria, and show my records to the GI. As well I had to have the flu shot - no big deal as it is offered free at work and I usually get it anyway.

I am waiting to hear if I will need a Hep B booster before I begin the remicade.

The blood tests Matt had done as a prelim to Humira were...TB, Hep A B & C, Rubella and Varicella (Chicken Pox).

Dusty. :)

I've had chicken pox as a child so didn't need to have the vaccination or have titres checked on that one.

I have had 3 boosters over my life for Rubella and just don't ever show any immunity in the blood tests (although I most likely did develop the appropritate antibodies). As I am now not able to have kids(don't be sad I have 2) GI and I decided not to worry about that one anymore.

My doctor had me get a pnumonia Jan, it is good for 5 years but did leave my arm sore for a few days. He said while the chances were remote, it is now recommended as the have been a few cases of remicaid patient's getting it, since the Jab is very safe for imneo depressed patient's it was worth getting, so I did.

Alright so I'm back from the GP and things went well. Sort of. Anyway my TB test came back negitive I was given a pnemonia vaccine and had my flu shot done in November. He took a blood test to see my immunity to diseases and it came back immuned to measles/mumps/rubella, hepitis b and chicken pox. He then told me all I need to get is hepitis a, Dtap, and HPV. My insurance is sucky in the area of adult vaccines though and doesn;t cover them. So I'm now trying to find some cash to cover the vaccines. Hopefully my GI will let me start remicaid without the three vaccines

Check with the new health care requirements - I know that some vaccines for adults are now COVERED with NO CO-PAY due to the changes...the flu shot is one that went to no co-pay in October (which is why I waited to get mine).....

im on remicade and my doctor said no to getting a flu shot??? he said i can not get a flu shot with it being a "live" vaccine it would react badly with the remicade. has anyone else been told that??

The nasal spray is a "live" vaccine but 99.99999999% if not all of the shots are dead virus.
