I have been on Remicade for over a year....Been experiencing vaginal irritation for the entire time...My GI doct (I now have a new one) told me it was not related to it. I have been working with an OB doct and everything else has been ruled out. I did some reseach online and found out this IS a side effect (rare). Anyone else experiened this and if so, what was done? I haven't had a flare up in over a year, after getting several and being on high doses of prednisone. It is very frustrating!

yeast infections/remicade

i too have been on remicade for 1 year and 3 months, also taking imuran with it, i too experienced vaginal yeast infections for the longest time which my GI said is due to the weakened immune system, after several doses of yeast infection suppositories i tried the oral dose and have been symptom free for a few months, hope this helps you

Me, three! There's a purple spray your OB/GYN can spray the inside of your vagina and it will knock it out. I have had the same problems with it-try abstaining from sex for about a week after infusion, that helps me, too.

It's due to being very immunosuppressed also if you have an IUD or the vaginal ring yeast clings to those things and becomes very difficult to regulate the yeast.

I am having the same trouble. I think I may have had prescription in the past, checking with pharmacist today, and failing that will get the normal otc treatment.

Steroids, immunosupressants, and antibiotics all grow yeast (candida albicans). Taking Nystatin prophylaxis might help keep the yeast away. I had to do this plus get an IV bag of diflucan. After 2 yrs of this ongoing problem, it seems gone! Hooray!

Your also very prone to utis. The first time I was on remicade I think I had a uti almost every month or two...
hope you find some comfort soon.

How strange that I stumbled on this thread.. Was on Remicade for a few years when first diagnosed in 2004 and just recently started again two weeks ago. I have also been have unexplained vaginal itching, not full blown yeast infection, just itching and icky... Never occurred that it could be the Remicade, will have to ask my doctor about it, but I've already made the Physicians Assistant call out a prescription for diflucan.
