Hi -
Was wondering if anybody tried or heard of trying oral vancomycin for Crohn's?
I know it is typically used for C Diff ... and there are loads of articles on that. My son has been trying it with some success for the last 7 weeks. He is not taking it for C Diff but our GI said that there is new research with drugs like this. All October Danny had diarrhea >14 times daily. He took vancomycin (500 mg day) for 4 weeks. His diarrhea was about 3-4 days a week and 3-4 times each day. For the first 2 weeks in December, when Danny was not on vancomycin, he again had diarrhea >14 times daily. He started the vancomycin last Monday and again we see positive results.

I came across the following article about this treatment ... but that was all I could find. (I could not post as I have not posted enough time here ...
name of article is "Long-term Treatment of Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis in Children With Oral Vancomycin: An Immunomodulating Antibiotic") The children in the article have Crohn's symptoms too.

Danny's other symptoms still remain (fatigue, abdominal pain, headache, etc.)

Thanks
Jeanne

Vanco resolved a Crohns flare

I became seriously ill was diagnosed with Crohn's but before the diagnostic colonoscopy I required a blood transfusion and nearly died. Severe potassium depletion. I developed an infection on my foot. When my husband took me to hospital they gave me IV Vanco and in about 48 hours I was better. unfortunately, the Crohn's returned 10 months later and my body is riddled with infections on outside. i assume the same is true on inside.

I took IV Vanco during my hysterectomy to prevent infection, and didn't have a flare for two years-up until now I never connected the two!
