Hi -
Was wondering if anybody tried or heard of trying oral vancomycin for Crohn's?
I know it is typically used for C Diff ... and there are loads of articles on that. My son has been trying it with some success for the last 7 weeks. He is not taking it for C Diff but our GI said that there is new research with drugs like this. All October Danny had diarrhea >14 times daily. He took vancomycin (500 mg day) for 4 weeks. His diarrhea was about 3-4 days a week and 3-4 times each day. For the first 2 weeks in December, when Danny was not on vancomycin, he again had diarrhea >14 times daily. He started the vancomycin last Monday and again we see positive results.
I came across the following article about this treatment ... but that was all I could find. (I could not post as I have not posted enough time here ...
name of article is "Long-term Treatment of Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis in Children With Oral Vancomycin: An Immunomodulating Antibiotic") The children in the article have Crohn's symptoms too.
Danny's other symptoms still remain (fatigue, abdominal pain, headache, etc.)
Thanks
Jeanne
