:ybatty: I have been very sick since last August. Crohns was not flaring. Basically my whole immune system was going nuts. Nerve conductive study found significant nerve weakness on right side of whole body. Landed in hospital just before Christmas with major gall bladder distinction w/o stones and dangerous low white blood count. Once white blood count recovered, was turned down by two hospitals to have gall bladder removed due to severe skin and poor healing issues. So go to big university hospital, get gall bladder removed. Diagnosed with extremely rare and seriously disease of the gall bladder. Basically two different issues in the same gall bladder. Usually not found until someone is seriously ill in an ICU or critical care situation.

So I filed for SSD in Nov, the brilliant psychologist who DDS sent me to gave them the brilliant diagnosis is somatic symptom disorder. Then benefits denied due to no physical disability. It is my head. No matter that I have had 10 surgeries with a permanent colostomy and over 30 years of severe chronic autoimmune diseases history. Do not worry I have a lawyer and heads are going to roll. Law office said they have a lot of Crohns on their books but with my history I am over qualified for benefits.

Hello there!

I see this is your first post so welcome to the forum! Feel free to pop over to the your story section and introduce yourself if you like.

Unfortunately a lot of people here are familiar with the 'its in your head' diagnosis. From the small snippet you gave us, I can see that its certainly not in your head and I'm sincerely sorry that you have been treated in this way. It is all to common for people with 'invisible' illnesses to be denied disability since there is often no outward sign of illness to the untrained eye. We have a disability and unemployment support group for members in your position and similar which is full of hints and tips plus lots of support, you are more than welcome to join if you would like to :).

Please keep us posted on how you are getting on, it looks like you have a lot of experience to share and I look forward to seeing you around the forum :).

Hi WyoJae

So sorry about this. I did a search for so somatic symptom disorder. Seems very Freudian to me, that is bodily symptoms are 'real' but are psychological in origin. I would like to point out that Freud got its wrong quite a lot of the time. Even if it exists, it is certainly not appropriate for your condition. I am glad that you are fighting it.
