very confused

I had to make an appointment to see the specialist. I read the report just then. It says my CT scan is suggestive of ulcerative colitis and the results of my colonoscopy and biopsy are still pending.

I am so confused. Why didn't the doctors tell me this? They said after the colonoscopy that i did not have this. I don't know what to expect :(

My guess, and it is just a guess, is that when the doctor did the colonscopy everything looked healthy and not consistent with UC. The CT scan may have shown some swelling but is far less accurate than the biopsies that are taken during the colonoscopy.
If you are anxious I would call and discuss this with your nurse to see why the CT scan results are contradicting what the doctor said after your procedure.

When I had my first colonoscopy the doctor came out right away and said it was likely UC. The biopsy results confirmed it. In other words, if you are having issues with a "flare" right now you would be showing clear signs of UC during the colonoscopy procedure. Does that make sense?

Some people (like butt-eze and myself) are lucky to get a rapid diagnosis.
Other members of the forum, on the other hand, will tell you how just how difficult it can be to pin down a firm UC diagnosis.

Yeah, Chris, I agree with Butt-eze. Inflamation could indicate UC,CC whatever. It could also be infection, irritation, any number of things. doc's are reluctant to pop out a dx like crohns or uc without UNDENIABLE evidence.. waiting for the biopsies or scope results are just common practice. Like, they could scope the colon, and it could look crystal clear... maybe because disease is above the colon, or its early, and the visible signs aren't there yet. But the bloodwork, or biopsies, or whatever prove it is (or isn't). hope I'm not confusing you, I don't mean to. For example, I got a colon full of scars n inflamation, had biopsies N bloodwork... they still can't tell for certain whether it's UC, CC or CD that I got.
They 'know' for certain I've got one... just no definitive answer to which it is. I got no choice but to live with the uncertainty, luckily the treatment is the same

thanks everyone for the help. I see the specialist in 7 days so I guess i will talk to him then. This is all so extremely confusing, especially considering the surgeon said I do not have crohns or ulcerative colitis.

Sorry to hear all you have been through lately. Hopefully the specialist can give you some concrete answers.

Thanks. I see him soon, next week actually. I really hope I do not have crohns or UC :(

Oh well, what can you do?

Feeling a lot better now. Wow I still cannot get over how bad a colonoscopy is. My bum still has not recovered from the prep lol. My left shoulder hurts a lot still though. I think its from the gas as the same thing happened when I had my appendectomy done laproscopicaly (sp?). Apart from that I feel so much better. Diarrhoea has totally stopped even. And I am very hungry, trying to hold myself back from eating too much lol. The mouth ulcers have cleared up today a lot. I guess because I re-started nexium a few days ago, I have no idea why they took me off it.

Thanks again everyone for the help. I really appreciate it :)

Take care,

Chris :)

Hey Chris, don't feel guilty or ashamed of hoping it's not IBD. If you come back with a more positive diagnosis clearing you of either UC or CD, I know everyone on this site would cheer. As I've come to discover my disease, I've learned to be sure to listen to my body. If yours is telling you you are hungry, then try eating a little something (be sensible, don't go crazy). Anyway, keep us posted on this, OK
