I need help trying to figure out what these symptoms may mean. My doctors seem to have no idea why this happens. As I am almost asleep, I will get hit with a sudden wave of strong nausea. I will wake up and start shivering uncontrollably, and my body temperature will drop. The nausea continues and I feel if I move any more than the shivering I will throw up. I also get strange feeling under my ribcage, chest area. My heart rate increases, which could be an effect of me being freaked out about whats happening. I feel lightheaded and I have to do deep breathing for sometime to calm down. This will usually last from 3-6 hours and it is very difficult for me to go to sleep when it happens. Last time this happened, I felt on edge for a few days following, as if my blood pressure was escalated and sometimes shortness of breath. My doctor told me that he thinks it is a reaction to something I have eaten. But it seems too strange to be that. I am currently on remicade, I have had 4 infusions so far. The first time this happened I was on no medication for my crohns.

I'm just wondering and I'm definitely not saying that this is what it is, but do you know what an anxiety attack is?

Check here and see if you think it resonates with you, but know that someone doesn't have to have all of these symptoms for it to be anxiety. If it is, there is nothing to be ashamed about. Chronic immune problems cause the whole lot of us anxiety to varying degrees so it's not uncommon. http://www.anxietycentre.com/anxiety-attack-symptoms.shtml

I have had anxiety attacks in the past. These seem much different than what I have had before. And I haven't been particularly stressed lately. I have learned meditation and other ways to help with stress. Is it possible for anxiety attacks to change to different symptoms? I forgot to mention that when this happens, I will usually have a bowel movement (normal) but it doesn't alleviate the nausea or weird chest feelings.

Oh sure. Not everyone experiences anxiety the same and symptoms can change. And good stress is still stress

Anxiety can cause you to urinate frequently and have a bowel movement. It is separate from your IBD, but it does happen. It happens to me :)

Also check the side effects and precautions of anything new you're taking in the last several months.
