Hello, I'm 17 and for the past 2 years i have spent every month in and out of hospital with all the symptoms of Crohn's disease, so far with no definate diagnosis.
I have now been referred for a Video Capsule Endoscopy(VCE) which i have on 25th of this month. I was wondering if anyone knows if you are allowed to take Questran, which is a diarrhoea relief, but not listed on the sheet. Does anyone have any experience with this, i am scared if i cannot take medicines i will not make it to the hospital (1.5hrs away) as i wont be able to hold for that long.

If anyone has any experience with this or just a VCE yourselves, i would love some advice or reassurance.

Thanks all.

Hi again Rose. :) When I had my capsule endoscopy a few years ago, they told me not to take Lomotil which is an anti-diarrhea medication. I would therefore presume Questran would also be a no-no - that's just my assumption. Your best bet is to call the doctor or hospital performing the capsule endoscopy and ask them directly if you could take Questran or not. I realize the car ride won't be pleasant either way - all I can say there is plan ahead. You mentioned in the Undiagnosed Club that you'd be mapping out bathrooms along the driving route, that's a good start. I would also suggest possibly sitting on a plastic garbage bag just in case you do mess yourself in the car, and bring along supplies like spare pants and underwear, wet wipes and toilet paper, plastic bags to put soiled garments in, etc. You said in the other thread that you'll be doing clear fluids only for the full day prior to the capsule endoscopy, so hopefully by the time you need to get in the car, you'll be mostly empty and won't need to worry too much about bathrooms. Good luck, I hope you have an uneventful trip to the hospital!
