Been referred to my local hospital for an exam, just awaiting appointment date. Anyway the symptoms I was having (mucus, D, cramps) have been gone for about a month or 2 now, and my stools are normal looking, besides 2 episodes of D. Got referred to hospital as symptoms are similar to those of Crohns but also my mother has had it for 30yrs. My query is this:

Is the lack of symptoms for the last 2 months a sign that I infact do not have crohns

or

Is it just a case of what i am eating isn't actually aggrivating it and therefore no flares are taking place

Its hard to say because you could be out of a flare but still have crohns, something else could have been at play which wasnt IBD, or you could have active inflammation but be symptom free.

I know my answer isn't much of an answer but it goes to show the complexity of the disease. There was a time I thought I was relatively ok and had to have major surgery. I have also had times where I thought for sure there are major problens but there weren't. Good luck in getting a diagnosis.

Thanks. So it is infact possible to have crohns but experience zero symptoms? I didnt know that

Yes, it's possible. Crohn's disease can be insidiously silent. Also, CD is highly individual and symptoms can depend on many factors. My son had severe abdominal pain, mouth ulcers, night fevers and fatigue at the time of dx but no diarrhea. Now, even though tests have shown he has active disease progressing he shows no outward symptoms of CD.

That being said, I agree with NGNG, you could be dealing with something besides CD such as infection and are now free of it. Hope the exam proves this out for you.

Thank you. The symptoms (cramps, D, mucus, stomach gurgling) were quite regular at one point because obviously i didnt know what was causing it and kept my diet the same. But since slowly noticing things like onions, certain meats etc cause issues i stopped eating them. For 2months I have not had any smptoms besides 2 episodes of D and just assumed that if I had CD I'd get regular symptoms regardless of diet etc. That's what made me think perhaps it isnt CD

I guess that is individual as well, there are many who have to avoid certain foods such as onions, spicy food etc but others have no problems with food stuffs.

The only symptom I had that made me even consider going to a doctor was severe anemia, which they have treated and reversed with medication. At this point, I have no outward symptoms compared to others here (some IBS like symptoms, but none of the blood and D). Yet still showing inflammation in three locations... so yes, it is possible to have active Crohn's without all the blood and D that others get.

good luck getting checked out -- here's hoping it was something simple and NOT one of the big ones.
