We get our ng tube Tuesday!...or not lol!

Just got an appointment for an ng tube. While I feel a little bad for dd (I think I will tell her the morning of), I am excited to try it and hopeful that it will make a difference. I need to be sure that it works for our insurance company, though...wish us luck!

I was feeling pretty uninformed and frustrated this morning...I was unsure if my expectations were too high as far as remission is involved, and wondered why everyone (it seems) else talks about bloodwork and we get very little done. I called m̶y̶ ̶b̶o̶y̶f̶r̶i̶e̶n̶d̶ (sorry) the doc we saw in Boston  and he called me back within an hour...love him! He told me that is was unlikely to work but more importantly that we haven't given Remi a fair shake if we haven't done any bloodwork to see what her levels are and to see if upping her remi dose helps. He ALSO said that if she HAS diarrhea, she isn't in remission and my expectations are just fine (I was told by a nurse that she isn't flaring unless she is bleeding...o_O) He thinks that she will probably have surgery in the next four years but that we can try a few other things first. When I told him that I love how frank he is with me he told me that EN, while it works in other presentations of Crohn's, is a waste of time for us.
I totally appreciate that our doc is willing to listen to us and try anything, I wish he'd understand that I value his opinion. Dr. Essers told me he discussed ALL of this with Dr. Rivera, and I haven't heard a shred of it. I'm going to go to our appointment Tuesday by myself to discuss it with him.

Sending you loads of luck all round Angie!

I hope more than anything that the EN helps Izzi and your insurance company comes to the party...

Wishing you lots and lots of luck!!! I really hope it works for Izzi! :rosette2:

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! But, when you get the NG tube, etc. ask about troubleshooting 'flow errors' (or other issues)... my son and I had some stressful moments the first couple of days. Nothing serious (and were all 'mechanical'-type issues...) but things like 'squeezed' or twisted tubes, dust in the 'eye' of the pump... they were nothing serious and nothing that couldn't be fixed in a moment but stressful when you don't know what to do and haven't been forewarned! :thumright:

Hope it all goes well, and Izzy soon adjusts and is feeling better on the EN quickly.

Take care,
Lily Rose

I am unsure. I've done a bit of reading about using both...I wish our doc would call me to discuss it as a bit of info is lost going through a nurse both ways. :(

So NOW we are going tomorrow, the 24th (ironically, my birthday lol!) I am a bit desperate for this to work...she vomits daily and has very little appetite. She's lost around two pounds since LAST Monday...at the very least (if she doesn't puke up the en) this will keep her from losing more. Poor sweetie is in the bathroom a TON though...I've stopped counting but GEE, she must be exhausted!
We have talked about the tube (I *do* think she is a bit worried but she talks about it freely) and the fact that she can't eat normally (and after telling my parents this TWICE if they show up with a birthday cake I will beat someone up) and I think we will be ready for it!
We have increased her Remi dose and moved her up from 8 to 7 weeks...she gets another dose in 3 weeks.

Will be thinking of you both tomorrow. She (and of course her Mom :)) deserve this to go soooooo well. Please let us know!

Julie

Good luck for tomorrow Angie and loads of squishy hugs to Izzi...

Please let this work so that sweet little girl can get some relief!! Good luck Ang and Izzi!!

Good luck today Angie, (and Happy Birthday! Maybe you're present will be an easy day) I hope this works for Izzi! Probably right now eating is a grind for her and not something she looks forward to anyways...the ng tube may be a break for her? Since she's so exhausted...I'd present it that way...A much needed break. Everday food can be the enemy for a crohn's kiddo. (We've never had to do an ng tube yet, so I apologize in advance if my comments are unhelpful and from an inexperinced perspective:))
