My daughter now has a date for her surgery. The surgeon thinks that about 15cm of small bowel will be removed. She's going into hospital on the 1st November, with surgery booked for the 5th. It was supposed to be on the 12th but I had a call from the hospital yesterday to say they can do it sooner. They actually wanted me to bring her in on the 31st, but I am dealing with my elderly parents' house move as well, and the 31st is their moving day :eek2:. I actually feel like I'm going crazy with all the things I have to do at the moment. I'm sure it will all be fine in the end!
We had an appointment with the paediatrician and haemotologist yesterday and they recommended she has the flu vaccination as her tablets suppress her immune system. Has anyone else's child had the vaccination and should we expect any side effects?

Hi, I have no experience of surgery with my daughter but I wish her all the best.
I have an appt for a flu *** come through for Ella and she also is on immunosepressants, I was told because it is not a live vaccine it is fine to have.
It does feel very overwhelming when you have so much to deal with, but hopefully after your parents move and your daughters surgery you will be able to take a breath for yourself.
Take care xx

I don't really have anything to contribute but I wanted to come wish you guys luck for a quick and successful recovery!

My son has gotten the flu shot the last 3 years and hasn't had any side effects from it. It's my understanding they need to get the shot since it's not a live virus (nasal vaccine is a live virus). He had the flu the year before that and it was HORRIBLE so we definitely get the vaccine now.

Best wishes for the surgery and a quick recovery!

Hi, my son gets the flu vaccine as he is on azathioprine. He had it last year with no side effects. Good luck with the surgery.

My son got an colonostomy last year and even before we never did a vaccination. I still have yet to give him one and he is fine. But it's just my personal preference not to give my children those types of vaccinations.

Good luck with the surgery.

Good luck with the surgery! We also give Caitlyn the flu shot yearly. make sure they give her the shot and not the nasal mist as that is live virus and not supposed to be given to kids on immunosuppressants.

Yep, our whole family got the flu vaccine a couple weeks ago (helps to herd-protect too). No side effects. Ditto on getting the shot form, not the nasal spray. Good luck!

Good luck with the surgery! :goodluck: Any questions you may have please don't hesitate to ask!

My two usually have the flu *** and did so this winter just past. They have never had any ill effects from it, they are both on Imuran.

Good luck on the 31st!!! Honestly, why does it seem everything always happens at once?!?!? Hope all goes well with the surgery (and the move!). :ghug:

Whole family here gets the flu shot.

Good luck with the surgery. At least you have a date to work towards and it means she will hopefully be feeling alot better in time for Christmas. Good luck with the surgery and with the helping move house! :thumleft:
Not sure where I stand on the flu *** - I see the value of it but I tend to be very wary of jabs in general.

DS had the flu shot a few weeks ago.
He is on remicade no issues .
He has gotten one every years since he was two.
That was when he got the flu and we found out how bad flu and asthma can be--- never again.
Good luck on the surgery.
