Have anyone else done this?

This would be my first day without sugar and i am kind of terrifying  I used to eat sugar A LOT! Candy and chokolates everyday so i know something has to be done.

No i eat my breakfast what is oatmeal with coconut oil and blueberrys.

:ybatty:

Hey Jimena and Happy New Year :) The answer is yes, I did when I was flaring very badly and it made a huge difference to my symptoms. That and giving up caffeine.
I can tolerate sweet stuff a lot better now, but I still try to stay away from it. It's just that I don't suffer many consequences now if i do fall of the wagon.
Coffee is still a big no-no, though x

Avoiding sugar could be a great benefit to anyone with IBD. Try honey instead. I think you will find that you feel much better using honey rather than sugar. Also, if you stick with it even when it is difficult then you will eventually lose your taste for it. Just force yourself to make it through those first few weeks of torture and by 6-8 weeks you will begin to lose the cravings. When I have something sugar sweetened now it tastes way too sweet and I don't even like it.

I did go off of sugar for a while but I have a terrible sweet tooth. Are you trying to avoid regular sugar or all forms of fructose? Maybe indulge in a little honey or maple candy and fruit sparingly to get your sweet tooth satisfied. The other junk needs to just be dropped cold turkey.

I try to avoid everything white sugar, i eat fruits and honey, but try to stay away everything artificial.

It's gonna be hard, because yesterday i got package from Pasobuff, american cherry-flavored candys, yummy!!! :rof: Love everything Cherry-flavored and here in Finland we don't have hardly anything.

I think i am few weeks totally off sugar and then i start keep "candy-day" every saturday. If i can keep it that way, that i eat candy only saturdays. Some people say that they can't do that, eat sugar only one day a week because they start graving it even more and it's better to be off completely, than eat just sometimes sugar.. Do you have experiences?

Yesterday was my first day without any sugar. Went good, but i thinks 3rd-4rd day would be the worse.... :eek2:

The first thing I did was quit drinking soda and eliminate high fructose corn syrup. Admittedly, this was hard at first, having been a sodaholic for 20+ years (at least 2 a day).

However, your tastebuds/palate change, and I would especially encourage experimenting with herbs/spices--in lieu of sugary sauces/dressings.

Some nutritionally minded folks say upping your fatty acid intake (fish/omega 3/walnuts/avocados etc./even omega 9s) which will damper cravings. Others say eating a hearty breakfast with both protein and plenty of carbs. Adding protein (like whey/eggs etc) also is said to somehow cut cravings down. Eating a banana, or whatever fruit, in the later afternoon may help too. A mineral supplement may quell any micronutrient cravings as a possible source of sugar seeking.

I find that I am not disciplined enough and that I would need to go cold turkey. I do have fruit and honey and maple now. I avoid cane/corn syrup, artificial sweeteners and anything with ingredients I don't know.

Thanks for replies! I have been off sugar now 6 days, jahuu! It's not been very easy, second and third day i eat some chocolate-cace,what i made myself but that's all sugar what i have take in six days.

Worse cravings come after dinner, after a good meal i just hunger for some sugar, chocolate of candy, ice cream or anything sweet. That is the hardest part. I have been eating half a banana after a meal, that's my dessert :rof:

Haven't tasted my american goodies yet :confused2: Try to stay away couple of weeks and let's see...

I'd forgotten about these. They are very, very good and very easy to make. You can just use normal butter too if you can tolerate dairy OK.

I am a bit of a sugar fiend myself...mostly when it comes to baked goods.

I substitute honey for other added sugars. I also add fruits whenever I can as they give me a feeling of eating something sweet, but it is also healthy. Looking for healthy recipes that take your mind off of sugar is good too.

Maybe to help wean yourself off you can to every other day no sugar, then keep adding and additional day with no sugar and subtracting a sugar day (but don't go crazy on those sugar days! lol)

Wishing you the best of luck!
