hey guys. ive done four remicade treatments and take a couple other different meds for my crohns/colitis and im not in remission yet :/ my symptoms are better but i havent achieved remission. after the second infusion i reached a certain point of health, and it seems to be stuck there ever since, teetering on the edge of remission and falling backwards into my horrific flare again.

my father asked me to stop weight lifting becuase he feels that as a form of stress it may be holding me back from remission, and not be good to put physical stress on my whole system like that. althought i lift properly and dont overowrk myself and i also feel good when i do it and have fun doing it, do you think this may be causing from not acheieving remission? i ask becuase im debating whether to stop lifting for a couple of months to see and i need other peoples opnions. my mom doesnt want me to stop working out, and i dont really dont know what to do becuase i like going to the gym to let some steam out

I think exercise has been shown to be a pretty big health benefit all around. Actually a lot of people exercise as a form of stress relief (as you said, you do it to let steam out). Personally I think it is nonsense unless you get yourself worked up about it when you do it. I wouldn't stop lifting but I know everyone on this forum would do basically anything to get relief, so if you think it's worth a try and it makes a difference, then by all means go for it.

That said, I'm sorry you're still not in remission. IIRC Remicade is not meant to put you in remission, just meant to keep you there. Have they given you anything (like Prednisone) to treat you acute flares? I hope you start feeling better soon.

physical stress can have a negative effect on IBD. I find if im too active (kickboxing 4 hrs a week) i tend to flare after a few weeks of doing it. Think its due to not letting the body recover. Saying that, without exercise I do feel worse.

Maybe you could cut down on the weight lifting and go for a small run, skipping and stretching instead if youre well enough. These should help with bowel movements whilst keeping you fit

:/ yes prednisone lost its effectiveness on me and basically did nothing this flare around. i was on 60mg for awhile and nothing, and luckily the remicade helped. this is only my second huge flare and pred doesnt work already which isnt good. the first time they gave me 40mg iv and i was pretty bad and also with a c.diff infection and it worked wonders.

for the weight training i really enjoy doing it. do you think training lighter for awhile would be suffice or should i stop completly for a bit? i can stop but i just hate having to sacrafice so much for this damn disease!

ive stopped about 2 weeks now..and i havent noticed the improvement i want. how long do you guys think would be a good enough amount of time before i can say unfortuantly this isnt going to work. in other words how long does the gut take to heal, it cant be much more than 14 days
