Hi there,

I was diagnosed with Crohn's in May last year, aged 24, and ended up having about 1ft of my insides chopped out a year ago (a year tomorrow, in fact).

Despite the long recovery from that, I've actually not had any flare-ups or problems with my Crohn's since then and have been on Azathioprine 150mg every day which, therefore, seems to have been doing its job. Well, occasionally my right side is a bit tender but that's literally it.

Last week I moved to Spain and wasn't feeling so well on arrival. It's probably worth mentioning this was because of the physical and emotional stress of wedding, two funerals, moving job, moving countries etc and not Crohn's/Gastrointestinal problems, and so for my first few days here I didn't do much, felt pretty sleepy and sluggish and had little appetite.

I feel a lot better now in terms of having more energy, but over the last 24 hours I've been getting a strange but frequent urge to go to the toilet, only to not actually need to when I get there and just end up straining. It's like having a cross between constipation and diarrhoea and is a bit uncomfortable, in truth.

My question is, is this normal? But probably more importantly, how can I get rid of it? I'd ring my nurse but she's now out of hours until Monday (and in England).

:poo:

Hopefully this is a temporary stress-induced symptom for you.

I had something similar happen, but it continued and continued because I have an anal stricture. I'd be tempted to see if it gets better over the weekend, and if not, give your nurse a call Monday.

Same thing as Carrie. It's exactly the same for me - feeling like you need to go and nothing happens. I do have the stricture as well. When you do pass, if it is thin and ribbon like you may very well have the stricture too.
