Hi My name is Dawn. I found this forum thru Google. I am close to diagnosis, hopefully, and am just searching for information on what to expect in the future. Fingers crossed that I do not have cancer and I feel kinda strange hoping to only have Crohn's at this point! Had a colonoscopy this past Thursday (second one so far) and had poylps removed. He said he biopsied other portions of my intestines. Have no idea if that's normal in the search for Crohn's or if he is concerned about cancer or what. They kinda just shuffled me out the door before the sedetive wore off and my mind could clear enough to question everything. I really can't even remember what he said for sure. I was pretty loopy! LOL. I'm nervous and feel like getting educated is my best defense right now! I have ran across quite a few posts about NOT taking ibuprophen.....and now I'm super nervous cause I chew them down all day trying to ease my constant pains. Gonna stop typing cause I am pretty sure I have to retype this again when I'm "approved" and introduce myself later! ; ) Looking forward to some answers! ~Dawn

Hi Dawn welcome to the forum :) I hope you get some answers soon, am nearly there myself (i hope). Biopsies are a totally normal part of a Colonoscopy. I know biopsies are typically taken in other parts of the body for Cancer only, but the colon is different entirely. Of course they need to check it isn't the big C but most people who have a scope for whatever reason have biopsies taken, because sometimes the type of IBD a patient has is only visible under a microscope.

As for the ibuprofen, it is entirely personal choice as to whether you stop taking them. Daily use such as you described isn't reccommended for IBD patients, so is there something else you could take? Know how bad the abdominal pains can get :(
I stopped them as a painkiller for everyday aches and pains but still take them that special time of the month. Some people won't take a single one, personal choice like I said!

Hi Dawn
and welcome

Hope you get your diagnosis soon, it's hard waiting around with the unknown.
I hammered the Ibuprofen as well some years back. My gastro explained to me that to take it while your 'active' can cause intestinal bleeding. But he reckons it's ok if you're in remission. In moderation tho. Like Starr said, it's a personal choice.
Paracetamol and codeine might be a better choice. It's called Co-codamol here. But long term use of codeine can constipate you.
Try not to fret about cancer, I'm sure it's not. I think you'd be showing other sinister symptoms.
lotsa luv

Like yourself I not only took loads of Advil but I was a Advil pusher lol! (When my kids had a headache or my college baseball player son had major muscle aches.... I pushed the Advil) Now that I know ibuprophen can cause Crohn's I feel like a bad momma!!! So needless to say I sent my college athlete a big bottle of Tylenol :)
I asked my GI, what can I take instead of ibuprophen to help with my body pains (knee and back troubles) he said please don't take ibuprophen again because it can lead to flare-ups!! I was just diagnosed 2 months ago with Crohn's - I'm 54 and have had no family history of it and for me I truly think Advil is the cause of my Crohn's. I wish their was an OTC drug to take that worked as well as ibuprophen.

I hope you hear good news soon. I know it's easy for me to say but try not to worry. But I know the unknown is when fear sets in. We are all rooting for ya! :)

Your new over the Mississippi River friend !!!

I get biopsies done whenever they scope me. The first was to confirm dx between crohns and UC, and now it's just make sure it's not the big C.

I agree with everyone above regarding Advil, stay away from aspirin too.

Yeah, both are NSAIDs. However Advil is worse.

We're pretty much limited to tylenol and opiates.

Hey Vonfunk..........Would this be a good time to ask my Dr for the mother nature drug (MaryJane)? lol

If it's legal in your state I say go for it. I'm going to start working over my GI next week for my legal exemption next week

I have a question for ya Vonfunk........when you took imuran and got pancreatitis, what were your symptoms?

I am allergic to EVERYthing pretty much, so I don't take meds unless I'm really hurting. I did however opt for the sedetive this colonoscopy and did ok with it. Had severe reactions to all the antibiotics and pain meds for my gall bladder and other surgeries. Sometimes the med's are worse than the symtoms! LOL You would think with all the symptoms prior to now some doctor would have come up with a diagnosis. Hindsight eh? ugh I have so many questions and will picking your brains once I know for sure what's going on....waiting sux!)

Yeah I had my biopsies done on the 22nd, 1-3 weeks for results, all these flipping Bank Holidays here (3 in addition to Xmas/Boxing/New Years) have made me mad this year lol.

Hi Dawn! I definitely do not wish for you to have Crohn's, but to have a diagnosis is much better than hanging in limbo. Welcome to the forum!
