Hi everyone wanted to share my story and to chat to other crohns sufferers....Had been feeling unwell since dec 08 by Feb 09 my doctor diagnosed IBS after few months of feeling unwell i ended up at the A & E department with stomach pains to cut a long story short i had to have a colonoscopy on 8th Oct 09 was put on steroids straight away and felt great after a couple of days this was followed by a visit to the clinic I was diagnosed with crohns disease on 12th Oct 2009 then to my horror on 16th Oct I was taken to hospital having severe stomach pains and pain in my right hand side.On 17th Oct I had to have emergency surgery to remove 12 inches of my large intestine (the severe pain was a result of my crohns bursting and rupturing my bladder !!!) After the op i was in alot of discomfort due to the large cut on my stomach but after 6 days in hospital (they were fantastic by the way ) I was allowed home. The first 7-10 days were uncomfortable but i slowly started being able to move around without help, wasn't allowed to do much for 6 weeks so made of the most of the rest!!!! Now 3 months on i feel great have the odd days where the toilet needs to be close by but other than that i do feel almost human again .I've just finished my 1st week on Azathioprine and so far so good....blood test results came back as good so now starting to up the dose (i will be on 125mg ) No nasty side effects just this constant itching all over especially my scalp but i can cope with that if these pills are gonna do the job.Everything happened rather quickly so never really had a chance to worry about what was going on....thankfully.Would love to hear from others that have experienced similar i have a very supportive family who have looked after me but would like to talk to people who know what its like to have this
Thanks

Hi Kath
and welcome

Really glad the surgery went well and you're now on the mend.
Keep your eye on that itching tho, don't ignore it, I was severely allergic to Aza, and my body was covered with itchy hives, like a poison ivy rash! I was took off it straight away.
Glad you found us, lots of friends here for you, fire away with your questions, always someone here to help.
Where are you?
lotsa luv
