Hi

I was diagnosed with Crohns 4 years ago, and today I have a very established case of it. I would like to know how other people that have Crohns manage with it on a daily basis. I have had a very rough 4 years, and only now am feeling a little better.

Hi,
Welcome to the forums! I have had crohns for 12 (ish)years now. I deal with it by watching my diet, keeping stress low and not planning anything to far ahead if it can be helped. I also try to take all my meds how the doctor told me to. I have told my family and close friends about my disease so they understand when I am low.

Hi

I have Crohns 4 years, and am taking pentasa.
I'd like to know more about the diet you follow.

Welcome RDG!! Is Pentasa the only drug you are on?? If so and you are still having serious issues, you may need more aggressive meds. I don't have crohns, my son does, so I don't feel qualified to advise you. However, having read many stories on here, I do know that Pentasa is a very mild maintenance drug.

If you can manage with Pentasa and diet though, I'd say go for it!! Good luck!!

Hi

Thank you for responding and your advice. I was diagnosed 4 years ago, and had a very hard time of it.
I was recommended to take 6mp. I believe that is what the medicine is called.
I did everything possible, as to not have to go on that medicine, because of the side effects. I am on only Pentasa, and went to a nutritionist who has helped me immensely. I had problems with bleeding, and since I went to the nutritionist, and take a lot of vitamins, and also take a very special probiotic, I cant begin to say how much better I am feeling.

My son is on 6mp. I know what you mean about the sides. He's been very lucky and has had none but we were terrified when we started him on it nearly a year ago now. When he gets older, I certainly won't fault him for trying alternatives. It's just that for now, he's doing so well that I couldn't see us changing anything we don't have to. EJ also takes several supplements and a probiotic. Maybe we have found his ideal combination.

From what I understand, a person cant stay on 6 mp indefinitely. I think its only a few years, and then they prescribe something else. I am very happy to hear that your son is doing well on it. I know that is supposed to help tremendously. I was just afraid of the side effects. I just want to mention that I am taking a probiotic called VSL#3. I dont know if its for children, but its worth checking into it. All I know is that my doing everything together has really helped. I wish your son all the best.
