Wellbutrin/bupropion

I heard that even though bupropion more commonly sold as Wellbutrin works as an antidepressant that it potentially works as a TNF blocker and therefore can illicit remission in crohns patients.

Does anyone have experience taking this or know more?

I have been on it for 3-4 years- and I am out of remission now. Welbutrin works for me though as far as the anxiety and depression goes though.

My dr didnt mention any Crohns specific benefith though.

Out of remission meaning crohns problems are back? It would not be prescribed for crohns but could potentially help it.

Remission meaning while on Welbutrin I am in a full flare up
and have. Een in the hosp and my symptoms were Pretty bad
I don't know what roll Welbufrin played Did it keep me in
remission longer? Would this flare have been worse? I don't
Know but I am dealing with it better!

The articles I'm reading suggest it may have an anti-TNF effect. I wonder if taking it with an anti-TNF like Cimzia is a good augment or that's too much TNF suppression.

My mother has been on welbutrin for a long time but it was never considered for her CD. She has been in remission pretty much for the past 15 years ish or so with very minor flares through these years. She's never been on maintenance medication during that time at the exception of cortifoam at times and she was able to induce remission with use of asacol only during that time. It's a good question either or not the welbutrin may have helped.

Well it's great to hear she is in remission and on this med. maybe she doesn't know and it's helping.
