went to get biopsy results !!

hi all i went to day to get my first ever biopsy results which i had taken on the 9th of sept , me and my mrs went into room were he told us both to sit down and the news he had was not good as he told me that my bowl looked the same as a 80yr old patient with a heart condition, i am a generally fit 25yr old lad who loves rugby ,football ,boxing and am out shooting 4 times a week walking for miles then since 6 weeks ago have lost 2 stone in weight and passing blood every day , at the moment he said he could not 100% diagnose chrones as he said its very unlikely but there could be still an infection present but has started me on steroids pred tablets 40mg for a month and to see how i get on along with painkillers likle tramadol and some buscopan , he also said that after a month i stop the pred and it returns then it is very likely to be chrones so after 6 weeks i am still no further foreward and walking round like a zombie with no energy at all
has anbodyelse been told the same thing or any symptoms sound simular etc
many thanks

Hi and welcome to the family.

I'm sorry about your current zombie status. Been there, done that. It changes your world. It does sound like Crohn's or Colitis to me, but I hope it isn't. The good news is that you can still do those fun things that you're used to doing, but you'll need to heal first.

Where were the biopsy samples taken from? Was it from a colonoscopy?
Are you taking 40mg of prednisone for a full month, or did your doc tell you to taper 40mg for a week, then 30, then 20, then 10?

biopsy form colonoscopy and 40mg this week then 30 , 20 , 10
i have been taking 40mg pred rectal foam for past week tho but have now been told to stop that and just take the tablets

Since your doctor and pathologist couldn't give a definite diagnosis after doing a biopsy from a colonoscopy, then that would rule out colitis. Have you done or have they mentioned an endoscopy? A barium swallow? Or even a pill cam? Those are usually the next steps, I believe, in diagnosing Crohn's.

he did mention some sort of bio chemical correlation scan to be done next week, the pics he had of my bowl was all yellow and ulcerated which is why i was suprised when he said he couldnt give a definitive answer etc but he said that infective colitis normally lasts for 2 weeks max and it is very very unlikely it is still that but he said with more time would rule it out , all i want is definative answers but nobody is willing to stick there neck out and tell me what i have so i can try sort my life out as i have a fiance and 4yr old daughter also worried and think what the future going to be like especially after telling me my bowl like 80yr old patient with heart disease with ischemic type damage

Well, I really hope that next week, they will figure it out for sure.

Hang in there. You're not alone in this. We've all been through it, and are with you as you go through it, too.

Hey Kev, sounds like crohns from what you have described but not seeing the results and exactly were it is, is tricky. My inflammation was not patchy yellow but a cobblestone look and yellowish. BTW it can take months to get a full diagnosis so don't be discouraged by that. Took me a year. If you are on 40mg of pred you should have tons of energy. When you get down past 20mg and the symptoms come back then most likely crohns. Having tests whilst being on pred can give a false negative. Prednisone makes most of the pain go away but it is like a bandaid, soon as you take it off.

Hopefully soon you can get a proper %100 diagnosis and get on a med to help you. Try not to worry, it is hard but Crohns is not a death sentence. Just watch your diet, no junk food.

:hang:

Be careful with the Tramadol, very strong and make you feel really out of it, I prefer Solpadeine...good luck, Ive just had colonoscopy this week and waiting for biopsy results...live in North Wales but was born in Richmond, not far from you!
