What are the symptoms of an umbilical fistula? Is there a lot of pain or is it just drainage? My daughter, who has Crohn's, has a red spot inside her belly button and is concerned. Thank you in advance for your responses.

"A fistula that extends from the belly button to the digestive track is called an umbilical fistula." http://www.ehow.com/about_5037742_fistula.html

Your post tagged the definition and symptoms of a fistula in your post to this link: http://www.ehow.com/about_5037742_fistula.html (my post probably did too).

Can be painful and could have drainage and red. I've never had any type of fistula before but if you suspect something like a fistula then you should take her to the GI doctor so it can be diagnosed and treated properly. Could also be an ingrown hair or irritation from trapped moisture but it would be best to have it looked at.

I have one currently, and believe me it's not fun. It started off with redness stretching down below the belly button which would be quite painful, but i thought i had irritated the hairs, so thought nothing of it. It would often come and go.
Then i started having experiencing a hardness in my belly button, it was really painful, and it started expanding. It got larger and larger and then finally burst, at first it was pus and blood but then it started producing moo.
