Hi.

I had a visit at my family doctor a while back and did a little snooping in my chart while he was in the another room. The Gastro had sent him an update that said that he believes I have Crohns of the ileum and that my symptoms are Atypical. At first I didnt say anything to my family doctor about it because well I snooped lol and didnt really know what Atypical meant. After I got home and researched that word it means "does not conform too" meaning my symptoms are odd for crohns.

My symptoms are pain and diarrhea and bloating, with urgent bm's and some watery ones from time to tome. Sorry if TMI.

I was just curious to know are my symptoms common. What are the usual syptoms of crohns of the ileum.

Thank you.

Those are very typical so I don't know what your doctor is talking about. The majority of us suffer from crampy pains, diarrhea, gas and bloating.

hello there!

Not to be offensive, but what is your age that you have to snoop at your records from your family doctor. You have a right to ask for copies of your medical record and I think its best to always have copies. I think its important to have open dialogue with your doctor-. And if your parents handle your medical care it would be a good thing if you could hopefully talk to them too about it.

Your symptoms you describe are very common to IBD. What tests have your doctors done to identify the cause?

Hi

I Am 33 in Canada. I have never ever looked at my records. I know when I ask about the test I am shown and he is forthcoming with all my information. However if was just funny I was just curious as to see what the Gi had to say about everything.
Don't even ask about tests, I have had so many tests you wouldn't believe. I have even some tests that the hospital wasn't even aware of. LOl.
I have had 3 colonoscopies in 3 years, pill cam, endoscopy and an ultrasonic endoscopy, I have had WBC, pet scan, ct scan, ct enterography (never do that again), barium swallow, Nuclear endocrinology test, too may blood tests, stool samples, allergy tests, celiac tests, lactose test (scheduled on june 10) and probably more that I do not remember. Never had an MRE or an MRI. I did ask and was told that it is used mostly for nerves and muscle deficiencies.

Anywhooo, I think the main reason he said Atypical was because I was still having some problems while on prednisone as others have felt good on it. I think he feels that I have crohns along with IBS.

That is quite the list for tests....:yfaint:

It is possible to have crohn's and IBS. In fact now that I MAY have gotten things under control (not entirely sure yet), there is new suspicion that I may also have IBS along with my crohn's due to some recently stressful events that triggered some noticeable but temporary and not full blown crohn's symptoms that I usually get from crohn's (cramping, frequent bathroom visits, hip pain).

My typical crohn's symptoms include blood in stool, lower back pain, cramping, bloating, hip pains (in the bones), diarrhea, fevers, and mucous in stool. I get other symptoms too but they tend to vary with each flare.

How long have you been diagnosed with crohn's? what other medications besides prednisone do you take?

And crohn's varies from person to person...no two people will experience the same symptoms. heck, no one person is guaranteed to experience the same symptoms each flare :ybatty:

That's why it's important to keep track of your own symptoms and have open communication with your doctor about your testing and treatment plan to understand what crohn's means with regards to your body and to try and increase the chances that a certain treatment plan could be the right plan for you.

I think it's a good idea to keep an eye on your medical records. I've noticed so many mistakes in mine, and sometimes doctors have said one thing to my face and written something contradictory in my file. You do have the right to ask for them of course, but, here at least, you usually have to pay for them, and sometimes you may want to know something while you're in the appointment, not wait while you send of the form and payment and wait for them to be posted to you.

I've sneaked a look before now too. I know I'm allowed to see them, but sometimes doctors really do seem reluctant to let you read them. Given the number of mistakes and information that they obviously didn't want me to see, I'm not surprised they give the impression the records are not for the patient's eyes.

If I were you I wouldn't spend too much time wondering whether your symptoms really are atypical. They don't sound that atypical to me. But doctors seem to write all sorts of nonsense.

I had on ileum, my symptoms were diarrhea, pain and annoying noise in my bowels, wich would last for hours.
