My boyfriend is a crohn's sufferer and as a result has rather debilitating joint pain in his knees and ankles. Has anyone else experienced this and found a solution? Are there certain foods we can buy that will help this to stop?

I've heard talk on the bodybuilding forums about a supplement called Cissus I believe which is supposed to be amazing.

Also fish oil I think, which you can get in pill form.

The whole30 looks like a nice sight. I'll have to check that our further myself.

I've seen a number of people report that their joint pain went away after avoiding wheat. One sight about that ~

I went on a gluten free and dairy free diet and my joint pain was not as bad as on a standard diet. It wasn't until Whole 30 that it was completely gone though. Whole 30 was truly an answer to prayer for me :)

Now that I think about it, my back hasn't been hurting me lately and I cut out all grains as well. I wonder if there's a link

I used to have back troubles also and they went away after I stopped eating cereal. At the time I thought it was due to avoiding milk. From what I've read, more likely the back problems where caused by whole grains.

It definitely could be since Whole 30 eliminates all grain too. It is very similar to SCD, but slightly stricter on a few things (no peanuts, legumes, dairy of any kind, or honey, but it allows sweet potato). I think the key is that both the Whole 30 and SCD will eliminate some of the major inflammatory foods. If you tend to be inflamed this should help tremendously.

Personally, 5000 iu of vitamin D3 from fall through winter has worked wonders for me. It has reduced my SI joint pain from painful, multi-day episodes, to less than once every 1.5mo for maybe a day--and far less painful.

I've found that a grass-grain-free diet totally controls my joint pain. That's no wheat, rice, corn, barley, rye, triticale....
I breakfast daily on sunflower, sesame and pumpkin seeds and lsa mix. Quinoa and buckwheat seem to be ok, and but my preference is to get my carbs from vegetables.
I'm blood group O. That means I carry serum anti-A and anti-B antibodies. These antibodies are raised not in response to exposure to other people's A and B antigens, but to plant lectins. I'm old enough to have been given cow milk formula supplements from birth (thus diluting the effect of colostrum and exposing my immature gut to plant lectins in the cow milk formula). I wonder if that is the process that triggered my sensitivity to grass grains, probably exacerbated by exposure to herbicides and pesticides, which are known to interfere with immune system.
