Im sure you know my story now as ive posted 3 questions in a morning - you can tell ive seen a consultant and have lots more questions!

Im 17 weeks and 2 days pregnant. Im not sure yet whether I will have a c-section or natural birth.

Im on infliximab at the moment and have my last infusion at 24 weeks. Im on Aza and will stay on that indefinitely. Obviously the infliximab will have worn off by about 32 weeks then its down to the Aza to work. Ive never just been on Aza before as i pretty much went from prednislone when it wasnt working to Infliximab.

Both consultants have said that you can flare after pregnancy. They said i have to wait 6-8 weeks after the birth and then see if the aza is working and then decide if i have to go back on Infliximab. Ive also heard that a flare up after birth is fairly common but it could be because people stop taking their meds so they can breastfeed. I wont stop taking the Aza. I havent decided yet whether ill breastfeed or not but i will keep taking the pills.

Ideally id like to just stay on Aza and not go back to infliximab.

Is there anything i can do after the birth to reduce my chance of a flare apart from keeping up with the meds? I hate the idea of a much wanted baby and being too unwell to look after her. I have stopped meds before and nievly thought id be fine and i got very very ill so ive lost my confidence to just think things will be OK.

Lots and lots of rest :) otherwise, it may all just depend on how nice or mean your crohns wants to be! eat well, drink lots, again-rest lots and try not to stress out too much. I chose not to breastfeed so that I could remain on aza and the gp told me that i had a presciption basically waiting for me if i needed steroids (short course) after the birth at all. I was very strongly advised not to stop meds after birth as they believed it would very possibly encourage a flare.

i had a flare after my second child, was admitted but everyone is different, i didnt have time to rest as also have a three year old.

My consultants at the time didnt look after me so hopefully yours will.
Its hard with a newborn, do you have any other children?

Hi, no this one will be the only child. After 2 goes at IVF and 2 crohns flares to get here im not doing it again.

I assume the plan is i stay on Aza then if i flare i go back on infliximab but ill ask my consultant next week.

Stacey - 7 and a half minutes sounds appealing to get it over quickly but i hope i have more time than that else i wont even make it to the hospital!

This baby will be my only one i think due to age and needing IVF. I was 3 weeks late, breach and big so im expecting a similar trauma with my baby - my mum says i was difficult from birth onwards! Im having a girl they think and im expecting her to be a right little madam from the start :rof:

my first was an angel, but my second a little madam in fact she still is and nearly 2 lol x
but woudnlt change them for the world x
